If i remember right, it's happened to someone else before. The actual number (65535) rings a bell too - it might have been exactly the same for that person. Some kind of bug.I'm not Weird, I'm Gifted!

The same thing happened to me today. Try deleting all the PMs. It solved the problem for me.

Its either to do with a VB bug or corrupted part of the database.
65,535 is the maximum number of private messages any one person can have
