Alright, I need to get this off my chest. I don`t know what the blue blazez the writers are thinking.
First off, I`m not the kind of guy to coplain, I`m really not. I`m just happy to see my favorite characters in my favorite show and I`m enjoying every minute of it. Heck, I even liked "Epiphany" and "The Tower".
But this one...the whole premise is just WRONG.
This one has the potential to be the worst episode of SGA of all time and it`s just too early for the show to jump the shark.
Alright, so we have an episode whose working title was DELICIOUS FAT GUY...this should be our first hint that this one won`t be up for the Emmys. The idea, as I understand it is that the guys discover a fat "pheromone-powered" guy who "sends the girls into a tizzy" as Rachel Lutrell describes it.
I`m already imagining a porno flick starring Ron Jeremy by now but it gets worse...thei`re filming it in a "new way" that makes it look like a sitcom.
Here`s one reason why that`s a bad idea: over the whole 20 episodes of season 2 the writers have gone out of their way to make us dislike and disrespect the characters. Well guess what...this ain`t SEINFELD.
It`s a show where we`re suppose to connect with the characters, admire them, want to join them on their adventure.
But let`s see:
- Dr. Weir starts to cave under pressure, turning to the aid of drugs. She has Ronon torture an innocent man, she experiments on a Wraith turned human makes all sorts of new friends who take advantage of her naivite most notably the Wraith who then turn against her and get the coordinates to Earth. Nice.
- Sheppard spends most of his time as head military officer either getting laid with aliens or getting himself and his team captured. Lovely.
- Teyla basically does nothing except for letting herself be manipulated through mind control.
- Ronon picks fights.
- Ford goes insane.
-McKay`s arrogance is greater than ever except he doesn`t have the skill to back it up anymore,he gets his team into trouble, gets his teammembers killed and blows up a galaxy.
All of season two we have seen no reason to like, admire, be fond of, respect or connect with these characters. It`s ok to be flawed but season 2 was an overdose of flaws in our favorite characters. They have been made to look like dumb @#$%!
The writers need to be fixing this, they need to be giving us reasons to respect these people. Having them turned into idiots by a fat guy in an episode filmed like a sitcom DOES NOT HELP.
This episode could be the single most harmful thing that ever happened to the show...it could even destroy it. I pray that I`m wrong.
Brad, I hope you can pull of a miracle...but I doubt it.
