Stargate SG-1 is the long-lived TV series based on the 1997 feature film. The 11 soundtrack selections featured here highlight some of the best music from the show's first season. There is some impressive work on display, ranging from quiet moments to grander themes indicative of the movie's sweep.
All of the selections are presented in the form of suites, 6- to 10-minute cues, most nicely edited together from a given episode's score. Common themes for the various characters are used throughout. There are, as a bit of familiarity with the series shows, obvious melodic passages for O'Neill, Dr. Jackson, the Jaffa and others. The composers are skilled in weaving these themes into their music.
**major snippage**
The accompanying booklet hasn't a lot to say about the music itself, preferring to present a short episode synopsis (and a representative still shot) for each of the musical offerings. Still, it's well presented in its over-saturated colors. An acceptable package from GNP Crescendo, which has been doing a really nice job of getting these soundtrack albums together. —Al
