Thanks a lot man

My alarm helps me too (more than it will ever know), "They've got Chris Judge laid out under a blanket with three girls trying to keep him warm" ROFLMAO :D,

I found the keychain on the Internet when I was prepping for my interview with him. I should have saved it (and the quote) because now I can find neither. But it was actually for sale because I copied it down. Anyone else see it?

so did our questions get asked (when you were preparin' for the interview, yes you know the questions, the ones you wanted us to ask) how many of those were asked.

David
January 4th, 2006, 09:44 PM
I thought I was going to be in a position to print them before I went to meet with Ben but I couldn't print them out. As a consolation, everyone's name has been included at the end of the video, and I have saved all of the questions in a special place for GateWorld's next interview with Ben. With luck, it won't be that far off.

In some ways you should be thankful that I couldn't print them out. My guilt will ensure more of the questions get asked at the next interview than would've made it in this one!

Great Interview, David.

I did reconize some of the questions that I remember reading on the 'Ask Ben Browder' Thread. :cameron:

You're right, a few of the fan questions did manage to sneak in there. Unfortunately, no names. But I'm looking at the list now, so hope is not lost! :)

David, I was wondering if you knew that Ben doesn't really talk about his family before you interviewed him?

David
January 4th, 2006, 10:31 PM
Nope. We didn't go into detail about his personal life, which is my policy, but I don't mind glazing over them either. He didn't mind, or he would've told me afterward to omit it. :)

That's good to know. Also, I'm curious, what were your impressions of Ben from the interview and from talking to him before and after?

David
January 4th, 2006, 10:39 PM
I'll be honest. He's a challenge to interview. You either come prepared for him or you walk away with your tail tucked between your legs. I'm a young journalist and am eager to learn, and I can say I've learned a thing or two for next time. But he was unequivocal and a genuine delight. I could not believe it when his agent said he was going to drive up to meet ME. He gave up his afternoon to talk with us. I never would've expected such kindness from a celebrity of his caliber.

ShardsofGlass
January 4th, 2006, 10:42 PM
In what way was he a challenge?

Also, I saw this caption under a photograph of Mitchell and Carter in the transcripts: "The second half of Season Nine promises to give Sam a chance to command the team." Is this a typo? There's nothing in the interview that talks about Sam commanding the team at all. It seems to come out of left field.

EXCELLENT interview David :)
I really like Ben Browder :) He is just one class act and the way he did approach the whole interview, his role as Cam AND his role as part of the SG family period has me respecting the man even more.
I was surprised to hear him talk at all about his family AND delighted as well that he talked a lttle about them and didn't shut you down. We don't need to know all the details and what he shared was wonderful and gave us some insight into what it takes to be doing a job like his :) and that is all part and parcel of the whole *actor* thing

I do hope he is able to attend a Con for SG-1 if only the Vancouver or Burbank ones. I bought the DVD Creation put out of him and Claudia at a Farscape Con and he is just a delightful person to watch and it is nice to see a man that takes all of his popularity with a grain of salt but appreciate us fans all the same :)

Glad to hear that you will have yet another oppotunity to interview him David, and you must have had a Southern Ill T-shirt on UNDER your Hawaiin Shirt this time ;) OH and let me know if you need an assistant.. I WILL make myself available (wink wink nudge nudge) j/k :)

Hi David,

Yet another great interview! Ben Browder seems like such a wonderful person. I really loved his honesty, similar to Amanda. You are doing a great job with these interviews. Thanks!

I had the same question as Shardsofglass about the comment about Sam having a chance to lead the team in the second half. Is your response to Shardsofglass the one above? Is this what BB said, or something you are saying? And will you clarify this in your blog? Looking forward to your blog, by the way. (This leadership issue is such a controversial topic, so it will be good to get clarification from you).

Ben Browder: what a lovely, sensitive, intelligent man. I'm impressed with this interview. Knowing he was coming to Stargate I made the effort of checking out all 4 seasons of Farscape, and the show blew me away. I honestly wasn't prepared for such first class acting, and such a three-dimensional, emotionally complex character as Crichton. Altough I remain a Jack fan, I can only hope that Ben is welcomed and loved by SG-1's fans and the show makes a good use of his talent. The man plays from the heart, he deserves it.

I do hope he is able to attend a Con for SG-1 if only the Vancouver or Burbank ones.Ben told me he runs home absolutely every free weekend that he has, so it's very doubtful that he'll be appearing at the Vancouver Creation con. I specifically asked about him being around that weekend. I must say I admire his commitment to his family. Sometimes I just need to get away from mine! lol

I had the same question as Shardsofglass about the comment about Sam having a chance to lead the team in the second half. Is your response to Shardsofglass the one above? Is this what BB said, or something you are saying? As I said before Ben was pretty tight-lipped about spoilers. The only two things he eluded to were dipping himself into eight inches of mud and Mitchell's life being in jeopardy, which isn't really that big a surprise for a cliffhanger, or almost any SG episode. In an Official Magazine interview with Amanda Tapping she revealed that RC said she would be commanding in an episode. After discussing Sam not leading the team on a regular basis I felt it was in that similar vein that we could insert that note. Darren and I do such things as a matter of routine to reassure the reader with a full perspective, just in case they may take the other side of this issue.

I would never have guessed you are still new to interviewing, as you got such thoughtful answers to your questions. I really look forward to your blog and future interviews. Well I've been interviewing for two years but I feel that qualifies me as "new" still. Not even out of college yet and my future prospects are still dancing in conga lines in my sleep.

Thanks for clarifying, David. You know, it could be that AT is referring to an episode such as Prototype, and not one in the second half, but I have no idea. From your impression then, clearly BB views his position as sole leader, right? I don't blame him at all for this---just curious.

(I noted that you didn't ask AT about her view of the leadership situation! She noted that Sam is leader of SG-1 in the True Science special and co-leader in the Stargate Magazine you note above. And then JM is saying the writers see them as co-leading. Very, very confusing both on and off the show!).

On a funny side note, I discovered that if you right click on the video and change the speed to slow the interview becomes hilarious. I recommend that everyone tries it at least for a few minutes. :jack:

I loved this interview! Thanks so much, David. Ben is a first class individual, no doubt. :)

I can't wait to see the 8 inches of mud, myself. I'm a newbie to Stargate (thanks to Ben), but if Amanda said that her character was commanding one episode, my guess is that it's collateral damage, when Mitchell is incapacitated.

Again many thanks to David for sharing this with us.

As a long time FS fan and Browder (and Black), I just had to say thank you for such a lovely comment. There's been a lot of vitriol on the forums about Browder and Farscape; it's good see that there can be a more balanced view.

David, thank you for the great interview. I've always thought Browder was a self-deprecating, "nice" guy; he doesn't seem to have any prima donna in him and also seems to have his priorities in the right place.

I also liked the inclusion of the photo with Francesca Buller (Mrs. Ben). She's a very talented actress as well.

David,

Thanks for another great and fun interview. Having seen about half the Farscape episodes before Ben joined SG I was looking forward to his addition to the show. My opinion of Ben the actor has really increased after seeing him twice this year at cons. I hope when it is convent wil his family and work life that he will do a SG con. He is quickly becoming someone I really enjoy see and hearing speak at these events.

And then JM is saying the writers see them as co-leading. Very, very confusing both on and off the show!).

I'm not confused because BB doesn't contradict them. He answered a question about fan reaction to Cameron's introduction. He talked about the real-life military (people are introduced to different commands in real life) and he talked about AT being unavailable early in season 9. I agree that there are good reasons why they introduced Cameron the way they did. He doesn't say that Cameron and Sam aren't sharing command responsibilities for SG-1 since Sam's return.

I think BB would be surprised if we inferred that his view is different from his other writer/producer/actor colleagues just because he doesn't mention it when asked a question about the fans' perception.

ps thanks very much David for this interview, and thanks to BB for giving his time to do it.

What a wonderful way to spend half an arn of my life! That was soooooooo fun! He's such an endearing, humble, gem of a man.

And when talking about whether he was going to do SG cons, he said he was on his way to make his "ANNUAL" pilgrimage to the Farscape con to thank us. What an angel!

VERY cool/surreal seeing fellow Ben-respecters with him at the end, too. FRELLING AWESOME!!!

What do you say to someone who thinks you're the worst thing that's ever hit the screen? You
can't. Otherwise it becomes very difficult to even hear your alarm clock to get out of bed --
to make that mid-day point when you think, "Gosh, I'm tired." So, yeah.<P>

Question:
1. Who decides what kind of interview its going to be, video, phone conversation or like the PDL one?

David
January 13th, 2006, 07:57 AM
A number of factors come into play. The bigger the weight of the audience for an interview the higher in quality we try to go for. But it mostly comes down to where we're going to be and when. I was going to LA, so I decided to try and get some big video interviews for the Web site, and I ended up rolling in several.

Right now the Peter DeLuise interview is a unique case because it was not a phone interview, but it was an audio interview. This is because Union regs prevent us from videotaping on the Bridge Studios lot (or taking pictures, for that matter -- many of you have encountered this problem).

So with PDL I just closed the lid to the video camera and filmed only audio. Clearest audio we've had so far. Expect more of this this year.
