View Full Version : So, what's our take on Girl Teal'c?

I honestly don't remember her name, and I'm not sure she moves me at all. That didn't give her crap to do in the premier, but even if they did I don't know if it would be any different.

Pretty much everyone else is great. But gay new-chevron-guy isn't going to cut it (the dude in the baby blue sweater). He should have been the first casualty before Sumner.

Her name is TEYLA EMMAGAN... When first saw her I thought girl Teal'c too. She is a leader and a good fighter, I liker her. What chevron guy? Do you mean McKay or that british guy?

If you are talking about the british guy (the guy who activates the gate shield for the first time) I think his name is Peter Grodin... I don't like him much either. McKay is in charge of interfacing our tech with Ancient tech... He should dial the gate.

Yeah, who knows... Teyl'c ;) will likely play a pivotal role in freeing her people from the Wraith! She sure talks really classy though.

We didn't really get to know a whole lot about her personality, she didn't strike me as a girl teal'c, she didn't really strike me as much of anything. I'm going to wait a couple more episodes until we know more what she's about.

I'm sure they're taking a direction as to avoid heavy overlap and comparison with the SG-1 characters... maybe she'll even have some special powers we'll see yet. I agree, I'm gonna tune in to see what her personality is like and stuff.

I liked Teyla :D

I like her. She did have a 'special power' as she mentioned some of her people were able to feel the wraith when they were near, and when she and Shephard were leaving the ruins, she paused and said "The Wraith!" before anything else would have alerted them.

I didn't get the impression she was a girl Teal'c (aside from the position of an alien on the main exploration team). She has a much different personality and circumstances.

I didn't think I'd like the character but I did. I think the actress did a very good job.

i love all of the characters in atlantis! you have the scottish doctor embodied in fear of the ancient technology, you have teyla who's a bada$$ chick, you have mckay who is just HOTTER than everything, and sheppard...oh my goodness.

I'm hoping Teyla will grow on me because she didn't do much for me in the premiere. But on the other hand I really haven't seen much of her so I'll see how it goes. I was pretty ambivalent about Teal'c at first and he's now one of my favorites.

It's weird because both of the female characters are the ones I have reservations about. I really liked all the guys.

LOL :D My wife said the same thing about Sheppard. "Who's that hot guy?"
as she walked by during the opening 15 mins. She watched the rest of the show with me. Hmmm... I think Scifi has a good marketing tool for "attracting" new viewers. :p

i think they definitely did a good job with the "hot guy" factor in this one...and with SG-1...maybe creators are starting to realize the woman fanbase?

okay i doubt it...but whatever =)

I think she's awesome..I can see she'll have a lot of depth.

I didn't really get the feeling she was a "teal'c clone" tho. She feels like her own person.

LOL!!!!! That's great. :p

As for Teyla, I would agree with those who are saying it was hard to get a handle on her. Being that she came so late into the episode, there wasn't as much time to establish her character as all the other leads (with the exception of Ford, I didn't get a good feel for him, either). Almost the instant we met her, they had to establish the Wraith as well, so I would consider the pilot as little more than setting up the bare bones of her character, nothing more.

One thing I do love is her long hair. I have long hair. I love my long hair, and the majority of Stargate heroines seem to have short hair, so.... It's just a silly personal thing, but there it is. :p

She seems more competent in the ways of the world then Teal'c.

Where he was basicly just a Primitive Warrior with limited helpful knowlege of the enemy. See seems much more knowlegeable and adaptible. From what I could tell, her people use the Stargates already for tradeing with other groups, and they seem to beable to coble together what little Tech they can scrounge up (while not going near the abandoned city, there looks to be alot of abandoned delapadated tech just lay around, and if they're gate travelers I'm sure there are other places they can loot easy enough)

In other words, being Food rather then a Slave gives her and her people an edge over the Jaffa as a culture

And let's not forget that Teal'c was even flatter as a character than Teyla in "Children of the Gods." If you look at CotG, you wouldn't really expect Teal'c to be as funny or cool as he is now. During that whole SG-1 movie, all he did was give SG-1 about two or three meaningful looks, then turn his weapon on his fellow Jaffa, and become Jaffa-shaped wallpaper with a smidge of advice for the next two episodes. Yes, he's a great character now. But everyone was pretty raw for the first season of SG-1.

So let's give Teyla a chance (and a couple of episodes). I'm sure she'll prove to be less Teal'cy than we think.

For a minute, i was about to say "Teal'c wasn't in the SG movie", but since you said SG-1 movie, you were talking about CotG :) But anyways, i guess Teyla's race of people are a bit more 'cheery' then Tealc's, haha, thats so obvious. :D

Tealc didnt know any groovy ninja things like the girl tealc knows. the lowdown showed her busting out sticks, and she was doing hand to hand combate. thats gunna kick ass

Haha... well Teal'c has taken to talking more, but I get what you mean.

Hope she hasn't lost too many other necklaces, would be funny if everywhere they go, Sheppard finds another necklace of hers... "I lost this when I was just a baby... and oh, I lost this after I graduated from college..."

I could just see it now...

Teyla: "Oh! You found my other lost neckless! And my lost bracelet! And my lost ankle-chain! And my lost waist-chain! And the ring to my pierced nether-regions!"

Shippers: "Oh, why don't they just have sex already?"

Anti-Shippers: "I am so going to hurt whoever wrote this episode."

HAHAHA that one MUST be illustrated in a parody, or at least a MAD Magazine satire. Hahaha... bawdy tales of John and Teyla! Watch as they travel through a new type of Stargate that is ALSO a metal detector! Shudder at the horrors of a Wraith-parasite hybrid named Goa'llum who craves the one ring to rule them all! Witness their love child grow up as hilarity ensues!

I think she'll develop into a decent character. I didn't see her as a total clone Teal'c, the writers seemed to have mixed together Kasuf and Teal'c to create her character. The way she can sense the Wraith was also interesting and should lead to a future storyline.

Naaa, nothing power-ranger like that. Maybe more along the lines of it being a piece of ancient tech. Maybe a hologram message...or something more...

That whole ESP was tacky in a way. It felt as if the scene wasn't over before Teyla's Wraith sense was tingling.

Well, when I first read plot/character descriptions for Atlantis, I thought Teyla would be the Atlantis version of Teal'c. Thankfully, she didn't come across that way to me when I watched it. While it's true that her character wasn't developed much in the pilot, the same can be said for Teal'c in CotG (as has been mentioned) probably even more so.

I just some people are just forgetting that even in SG-1 none of the characters developed in the first episode. I mean...the first ep is just there to get the basic stuff down. Introduce characters. We'll see some character growth before season 1 ends. People are just too used to the massive character growth that has gone on through out the SG-1 years and forget it takes time.:)

i honestly find Teyla a tad bit annoying. she didn't really do anything and it's just... i dunno. at this moment, i find her annoying. hopefully, she'll grow on me. i LOVE Beckett and have always loved McKay. i really like Wier. i think she's awesome. Sheppard is... well, very much acting and sounding like Jack. he's okay, but not the greatest. even though Lt. Ford didn't do all the much, i really like him. :D

hopefully they're all have some great character development and those that i don't really like will grow on me, and those i love, i'll love even more.

Yep. I've been saying forever that people might not give Atlantis a fair chance because they expect it to be the best thing since sliced bread right from the start. Everyone should keep in mind that SG-1 wasn't built in a day. It's going to take a while before Atlantis hits its stride, but so far it's off to - IMO - a great start.

I thought Teyla was kinda cardboardy and annoying. We didn't get much about her, but what we did get was straight out of stock- all very cliche and predictible.

As for the Chevron Kid... Well, SG-1's Chevron Guy started out his life in silly cardigans, too. Maybe he has to move up in rank in order to wear decent clothing or something...

I don't know where you get Spain from... but I saw his patch he is British.

What confused me was why the english guy had a Union Jack patch, but Beckett got to wear a Scottish flag? Bit of a costume error there that needs addressing.

Also bare in mind they had only just started out in Atlantis and aside from the military officers noone actually changed out of the clothes they arrived in until the final scene.
