Can anyone help me out here.
I'm in the UK, and therefore the show wont air here untill probably september.
I would like to know what the theme tune is like. Does it keep the original Stargate melody?
Please describe it to me.
Better still, you could post a link to where I might download it.

There was a new theme. I'm sure someone will put it up for download somewhere soon. I did notice a "borrowed" theme from a SG-1 episode I can't place during the scenes as they explored Atlantis. The score was done by Joel Goldsmith, the same person who does SG-1's music.

I like it too! There are some hints of the SG1 tune in there. Its a good tune. Sounds like something I have heard before though. Cant think of where. Anyways, good tune! Cant wait to see what the opening titles look like!

Okay, I just remembered. The theme played during some scenes in Atlantis was very similar to the theme from The Light.

Now that's the only thing I didn't like about the new show. I thought the theme music was too mellow for what's going on. It didn't have any climatic atmosphere for me.

There wasn't an actual title sequence, so that music from the opening might not even be used for the regular episodes. *shrug*

There was a snippet of SG-1's theme when Weir read the note from O'Neill.

I thought the opening title sequence was a little odd. There was no build-up. However, given that most title sequences consist of clips of the show, it would make sense that at least the pilot episode would be different. They don't really have clips yet. ;)

Yes, it was an opening title, but that was a one-time thing.

The scene was....they're not gonna show clips for the series premier. But I'm willing to bet that that was the theme song.

Maybe. But like others have said, it didn't really feel like an opening theme.

I am a geeneeass. ;) Either that, or I spent waaaay too many hours listening to and picking apart orchestral works in skewl. I guess I have an ear for it? Anyhow, while I was vacuuming, I pulled out The Light episode on DVD and confirmed it. It isn't an exact copy, but the theme is very similar.

I kinda like the new theme. Perhaps it will fit better when they put up the actual opening sequence. I did like it with the helicopter though, it was like a movie opening.

i don't know why but i have a strange block with the atlantis tune. i find myself humming the chanty bit, randomly, but i can't remember the rest!! Weirdly though, whenever the episode starts i find myself able to hum the tune roughly 2mins before the title start. it's annoying because i like the tune a lot...

Wow...you should the page of scribbles I have in front of me now... As soon as i listened to those links I grabbed the first writing implement to hand(dark green crayon if you were wondering) and now I have a these sections of the tune written out in my semi-musical manuscript (musical notes for length plus arrows and lines to show pitch). At least I'll be able to remember the tune now! :D If any of the neighbours were looking out the window they'd have seen me waving my arms around madly, fumbling with the computer mouse and green crayons... Yes I am mad. :p Plus I love music and have A LOT of time on my hands! ;)

I made a quick video snippet of the Intro sequence a couple months ago. It's been at the top of my playlist since then. (I've been trying to grind it into my brain like I did for the SG-1 intro, lol.) I wouldn't see this if you haven't seen the show as it contains spoilers for "Rising".

If you want it, you can get it here: SGA Intro (http://www.members.cox.net/kklemens/stargate/SGA%20Theme.wmv)

(Boy, I wish I had some more space so I could upload my Atlantis music videos)

I really dig this theme. MUCH better than SG-1's...though I think they should've kept the choir vocals right until the end. I don't really like how they just stop after a short while. Other than that, A++

I like the choir style part just after Fords character is shown, I've got a mix of both themes that I found on the Internet Atlantis's is certainly better but SG-1's is also good.

I still like SG-1's theme better. It's easier to remember and sing along with. The Atlantis one is so jumpy in the beginning and then it goes up pretty high and ends abruptly. Just not very catchy IMO. It does kind of remind me of the SeaQuest theme, especially the trumpet parts.

I wasn't aware Altantis had a tune. It kind of reminds me of that one episode of Fraiser when he was asked to come up with a simple hummable jingle and he went Tchaikovsky on it. even that was more hummable.

I tried to hum it, I did, there's no clear rythym. just some oboes, a possible harp, soprano vocals - how do you hum to that?? :S

I like SG-A's theme better than SG-1's, but the way it ends so abruptly is just WRONG.
