STARGATE ATLANTIS
-----------------
Airs Sundays @ 8pm ET, beginning January 22
TORONTO, Dec. 15 /CNW/ - Stargate Atlantis, the highly-touted spin-off of
the popular sci-fi series Stargate SG-1 and recent Gemini Award winner for
Best Visual Effects, comes to the SPACE schedule this January. The show,
which
follows the adventures of a new Stargate team who discover the ancient city
of
Atlantis, airs from the beginning of season one on Sunday, January 22 at
8pm ET.
When a secret base, abandoned by the ancient Stargate builders, is found
in Antarctica, the newly formed Stargate Atlantis team is assembled, headed
by
Dr. Elizabeth Weir (Canadian actress Torri Higginson) and her military
counterpart, Major John Sheppard (Joe Flanigan). The team's discovery leads
to
a daring expedition to the distant Pegasus galaxy, where they discover the
lost city of Atlantis and rescue a primitive human civilization from the
Wraith, a sinister enemy they had been battling for generations. Low on
power,
the explorers must rely on their skills and newly found resources to maneuver
around a new network of Stargates and unlock the mystery of the abandoned
city
of Atlantis.
Created by Brad Wright and Robert Cooper, Stargate Atlantis was shot in
Vancouver, B.C., and also stars David Hewlett, Rachel Luttrell, and Canadian
actor and former MuchMusic VJ Rainbow Sun Francks.
SPACE will also present Stargate Atlantis: Behind the Scenes, on
Saturday, January 14 at 7pm ET. The SPACE production team interviews the cast
and crew of the hit series in this half-hour special.
