I was thinking that maybe William B Davis would be a good choice for this guys actor.

Yeah, that is a really good choice. I hadn't really thought of anyone specific yet, since so far we'd only seen the character a few brief times. But I think William B. Davis would fit very well.

And it seems we'll be seeing this character a bit more often in future episodes. He might even be getting a name very soon.

According to IMDB forums he will be appearing in SG1, using somebody whose appeared in official stargate canon could get rather messy

Yeah, every now and then actors are reused. I guess the record for an actor playing various roles would have to go to Vaughn Armstrong, who played I think eight different characters on Star Trek. Although, they were all aliens, with the exception of one. It gets a bit harder to pull off if the actors kind of look the same, but are portraying different characters.
