    Doom Is Modest Winner

Doom, starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, debuted as the top movie over the Oct. 21 weekend with a modest $15.4 million, the Associated Press reported. Stay, meanwhile flopped with a $2.15 million debut.

Distributor Universal expects to make its money back on Doom, but the studio had hoped for a bigger opening weekend, Nikki Rocco, head of distribution, told the AP.

Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit slipped to third place, with $8.7 million for the weekend and a total of $44.1 million to date.

Last weekend's leader, The Fog, fell to number four, with $7.3 million for the weekend and $21.6 million after 10 days.

Universal is owned by NBC Universal, which also owns SCIFI.COM.
