Incredibly suspensful episode, constantly on the edge of my seat!

3 WEEKS TILL THE NEXT EPISODE!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

ABC must have something lined up the next two weeks - do they have the World Series this year?

I found this episode a bit on the slow side, but ya can't hit a home-run every week. ;) But it was nice to see how Jin and Sun met. :D

When Jin and that other guy were hiding in the shrubs, how many "feet" walked by? I wish the tail survivors would just say what happened to all the rest. I'm assuming they were murdered, but. . . . .??

Interesting episode, if not as jam-packed with WTF stuff as the first few eps were.

Still, how's this for a far-out theory: Mr Echo is Walt.(Think Remote Accelerated Viewing Facility)

Yeah, I know. Did I mention it was far-out? :)

My kids(16 and 19 yr olds) got all excited when Mr. Echo did his "listening and hiding" routine and connected him to Walt. They don't know how or why, but they are pretty insistant - and usually have pretty good instincts for this sort of thing.

So I got to wondering; if Echo is not actually Walt(and I believe that he isn't) is he going to be connected to the Walt/Micheal dynamic? Does he have a sort of presentience like Walt?

Also, Echo seems to have indicated that he lost his wife or a loved one - in the crash or to the "Others," perhaps? He would empathize with Micheal. It's likely why he went to help Kim search.

I thought it was telling when Eco and Ana-Lucia parted as they did. Ana: "We won't wait for you." Echo: "I don't expect you to."

Does this mean that Ana has abandonned certain people to a deadly fate before? What does this portent for the injured Sawyer?

And isn't it cool how the only thing Kim has in common with Sawyer and Micheal is that both have beaten the tar outta him? And yet, off Kim goes, to do the right thing for his friend. Ties in nicely to his flashback story. There's not a warped bone in that man's body.

So far we've only gotten to know Ana Lucia, Mr Echo, Bernard and the woman with Micheal - sorry, forgot her name, already. There are... 2? more survivors in that group that we've not been fomally introduced to. I reckon they are the designated red shirts for the upcoming eps...

On another topic, I really like what they are continuing to do with Locke's character. His calm demeanor is such a pressure release valve for that show, especially given that we've seen just how angry he can get when things don't go his way. There was just something so soothing to watching him replanting that plant Sun had ripped out.

All in all I'm rather disappointed with the second season so far. I'm also disappointed with Ana Lucia as a character. They got Michelle Rodriguez and they just had her play the same character she ALWAYS plays. Bleagh.

I will say that the Others are turning out to be very interesting. They seem to have a kind of "lost boys" feel to them. They go barefoot and still hold onto toys. They can be vicious and brutal, but so can children. Maybe they were Dharma Initiative test subjects who escaped and went wild, and they snatched Walt because they thought they were setting him free.

One thing that worries me: what will Ana Lucia do once she and her group re-join the other castaways? She's used to fighting and giving orders, and our castaways aren't the paranoid warriors hers have become. Will she stage some kind of hostile takeover? Will she and Locke go head-to-head? Actually that would be kind of fun to watch, now that I think about it.

I find myself wondering now about Ethan. Was he one of the Others? It's pretty much established that Rousseau was the one who tried to kidnap Claire; was Ethan working with her? It raises many questions...

I'm beginning to think that these are a different bunch of "Others" from Ethan and the boat people. One group has tech and that group attends to the more civilized First Class survivors of the front section of the plane, whereas the primitive group of "Others" are dealing with the tech-poor, budget end of the plane crash survivors.

Co-incidence? I wonder....

They are probably putting off the next episode for November sweeps. Which is stupid since Lost is a top 3 show on the Nielsen ratings.

If you ask me the Others we have seen were a bit "tech-poor" as well. They looked pretty ragged and unkempt, and they used what looked like a homemade bomb to blow up the raft. I think they've got some technology, but what they have is outdated and breaking down. Keep in mind we didn't actually see the Others in the jungle (except for their bare feet), so we have no idea if they had weapons with them or not.

There's one very bad thing about this episode. There's no more episodes for three weeks ... Aside from that, I enjoyed this episode. A lot.

I assume that was the Others walking through the jungle, but with Lost, you never know. If it is the Others, then they really don't care how they dress but here's me thinking they've got some special 'powers.' We'll have to see.

I like the interaction between Michelle/Sawyer, I think it's working quite well, and I'm sure that will be developed more in the close future. :)

I thought this episode was great, even though the plot didn't progress very much, it was still a great Jin/Sun episode, plus it gave us Eiko's name and that tantalizing look at the Others. So many questions about them, why don't they wear shoes? (that really drives me crazy because Ethan and the pirates had shoes and proper clothes) Who are they?!! and so many others...:S

If Ethan was an 'Other,' then perhaps there is more than one group of 'Others.' It's always a possibility. :P

I think we'll find that 'the others' isn't a single cohesive group like we've previously believed.

Also Ethan remains a mystery. While we pretty much 'know' our latest group of walking-though-the-woods 'others' are capable of savage acts, Ethan had motives beyond killing. Technically Ethan may not be evil, depending on the perspective.

Ethan may be aware of the strange energies surrounding Claire's baby in the same way that the psychic was. He may have a different interpretation of what is best for the child though.

Gosh where to begin.

I'm kind of fence sitting on this episode. I enjoyed the Jin/Sun story but I'm already bored with the search for Walt and Michael's running through the jungle screaming for him with absolutely no idea where he's going.

I've liked what I've read here from other people regarding this episode. I thought I saw someone mention "The Others" looked a little "Lost Boys" being barefoot. I know on another board I'm on -- yeah that'll come up a lot I'm sure -- someone mentioned the same thing, the reason being because the teddy bear was tied up. Apparently in the animated version of Peter Pan the Lost Boys are tied together so they don't lose a member and the teddy bear is tied to the boys, pulling up the rear. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on the ages of "The Barefoot Others"? I don't think there was an older adult male in the bunch. And did anyone count how many people passed?

Discussion on Previews ahead:
Any opinions on what happens in three weeks? Who is "Lost forever"? I know I saw a thread regarding this with Shannon at the top of the list but I honestly think it's going to be Vincent.

If I did something wrong in my first episode specific post, please let me know!

not to sound like an ass, but you think the DOG is the one that's going to die? I, uh, wouldn't exactly consider the dog a main player in the series.

I thought it was a good episode. They are all good episodes. People need to remember pacing. There are 24 episodes in a season, thats alot of stories and hours. If this show is going to last for 5+ seasons, we aren't going to get chills spills and thrills every minute of every week.
I love the flashbacks, and see how everyone came together.

Also, about there not being a show for 3 weeks, it has mostly to do with the fact that a TV season usually runs from September to May. Tha'ts more than 20-24 weeks (using an example that most series have 20-24 eps in a season).
So, if they ran the episode consecutively, the season would be over in like February or March.

Remember, this is why FOX started to run 24 (the greatest show ever) in January last year, and it ran straight through for its entire 24 episodes...and that took it from January to May.

So networks always have to run repeats, or special features/shows for a few weeks multiple times throughout the season.

The preview I heard said absolutely nothing about anyone dying, it said "Someone would be lost forever." Yeah. I think it's the dog. Shannon has a story building in that she can see Walt, killing her, having her "get lost" would be a plot killer.

I agree 100% with you on that. This season seems to be getting a lot of negativity with it.

It's also my understanding that the World Series is coming up and even though ABC isn't airing it, they'd be foolish to put Lost up against it.

I think I may have made up the bit about Rousseau having killed Alex (though I vaguely remember it being suggested somewhere in season 1 - guess I'll have to rewatch) but I certainly don't remember it being revealed Alex was a girl... anyway... as for the feet not looking 16, I had to laugh at that - I did think the feet looked older but I thought it odd that the camera lingered a little bit on the teddy.

I figured though that these others had become at least somewhat feral with the teddy's owner hanging onto it because of some recollection of it being important (why they had it on a lead is a different question - of course it would have been more difficult to get it in shot if it hadn't been...).

EDIT: It seems I am not the only one to come up with the idea about Alex... http://lost-forum.com/showthread.php?t=17135

Sorry if I've gone and spoiled it. :(

It's in season one, Exodus part 1, where Danielle(the French chick) says:
Our ship went aground on this island 16 years ago. There were 6 of us - my team, 6. At that time I was already 7 months pregnant. I delivered the infant myself. The baby and I were together for only 1 week when I saw black smoke - a pillar of black smoke 5 kilometers inland. That night they came - they came and took her - Alex. They took my baby. And now, they're coming again. They're coming for all of you.

Actually Jin asks "Others?" to Eko in referance to who killed one of the survivors, and he just nodded, understanding what he meant. I guess it will just be picked up by the rest of them to save time explaining.

I missed that episode where Danielle (must. learn. names) explained the black smoke so I missed where Alex was given a gender but vaguely remember it being said that Alex was a girl -- which I thought was strange because everyone said Danielle took Aaron, which I could have excepted if Alex was a boy ... kind of like her son was taken so she took Aaron to replace him kind of thing ... but since Alex is a girl I could never except that everyone thought Danielle took Aaron because taking a boy to replacce your daughter ... I've never heard of that. Oy, my head.

And re: The Others ... Talk about headache. Yes, I think you're right. Michael et al.'s group might have said, I honestly can't remember, "Others" before the BPP (does that name work for everyone, do you know who I mean?) called them anything.

One of the first comments regarding this episode from the other board I'm on said the episode was painfully predictable when it came to Sun's lost wedding ring -- and I read the same thing on the recap for Television Without Pity. Did anyone here feel that way?

I did not ... I thought maybe she buried it with the bottle full of notes but I didn't expect it to be there.

Also, does anyone believe that Kate is actually torn up about not saying good-bye to Sawyer or that she's using it as an excuse for her strange behavior in going through everyone's note?

Sawyer called them Tailies (people from the tail), so that's what I've been calling them.

I think Kate was looking through the notes to see if anyone said anything about her being a criminal.

And I knew that's where she would find the ring, very very predictable. It was about the only thing in the entire show that was though, so I'll cut them some slack. ;)

I was always under the impression that Danielle took Aaron to offer him to the others in exchange for Alex, not to replace Alex. As to whether they would have done so, I don't know, but remember Danielle isn't quite right in the head.

Danielle took Aaron because she heard 'the others' whispers saying they were coming for 'the boy'. When she saw Aaron, she assumed that is who they were after, since her child had also been taken shortly after birth.

I think we're meant to know where the ring was...
It was obvious from the previous episode when she was frantically trying to bury the bottle. It's more of an excuse for the storytelling to revisit the Sun/Jin romance which was fine by me.

I'm enjoying S2 a lot more for some reason... it's a lot more intriguing so far and the flashbacks seem to be better utilized. Or maybe it's because I'm more interested in these people this season than I was last season.

Who in the world are these "Others"? And why do they want with Walt? Mr Eko intrigues me... seems to be an experienced tracker so what did he do previously? Hmmm...

I saw trhis ep yesterday and It was great. Sure the Rings storyline ws very predictable however I loved Jin and Sun's backstory.
Ana Lucia ive got to say I dont like her its just because of Michelle Rodruiquez always plays these kind of characters. For example the cop in Resident Evil. She rarely ever cracks a smile.
Mr Eko Rocks !!!!! He is soo cool such a great Tracker and everything he looks almost one with the forest kind of like the way Locke is (I wonder if this will be visited in later episode) I can see great chemistery between Jin and Eko. Perhaps Eko's first language isnt English and thats why he relates to Jin and he is very loyal too. I understand Michael but wouldnt he notice if he saw dead bodies lying around aswell as seeing how crazy this Island is not to shout at the top of his voice after Walt.
Those Others if you can call them that were creepy very reminiscent of the Lost Boys from Peter Pan expecially with the Teddy Bear on the end. (Perhaps this will play a major role in later eps since the camera was so focused on that teddy).
And the Preview for next ep looks great too with Sawyer being Sick and all (probably Sceptesemia or something like that after all that is a nasty bullet wound hes got) And more of Shannon seing Walt. Interesting... very interesting...
