Zoe and Mal receive a special delivery in the mail -- the body of a former comrade who served with them during the war, who wanted them to take him home to rest.

So, I know in the correct (ie. production) order this episode was not the last...but was it aired last? The end of this episode has the strong feeling of being the farewell to the show.

Is that supposed to be the Episode Guide's header post? (like all the other first posts in the other episode guide threads?)

It was the episode they were filming when they foundout that the show had been axed, so the last scene was really then saying goodbye to the show. Also this is one of the episodes that were never aired originaly on FOX.

A blessed shame really...
This is one of my favourites... it's very dark in places but had a lot of nice "family" moments... not to mention the Jayne Hat... :D

It was a dark episode, but I still enjoyed it. I had to laugh at Jayne's hat as I am into knitting myself and sometimes things come out looking hideously stupid.

I personally jumped whenever Tracey/Tracy screamed when Simon was starting the autopsy. What was even funnier is my husband jumped when he watched it after I had already seen it (love sitting back and watching his reaction).

Also loved the ice planet scene with River and especially her comment to Simon that he was such a boob. :D

Ye, this episode was really fun, Simon just isnt down with the women. But the last scene, the music was excellent.

You're right; Simon is totally clueless about women. And yes, the music was wonderful with the snow...

I've often thought that the Jayne hat had some resemblance to the Jayne disguise in Jaynestown...

Yes, I liked, "My food is problematic..." :D

Jayne's such a boy... isn't he? Underneathe all that bravado and apparent machismo... he's still just mummy's boy. ;)

Hey you guys ever listen to the comentary. It has jewel staite, and alan tyduk. Sorry if I spelt them wrong. They are really interesting. It was the last episode they shot according the comentary, and alan stole apart of the bridge when they said they were done shooting, but they needed to do a reshot, and the part was gone. I also like when alan, and nathan did the one of war stories. It was also a great commentary.
Nathon: "The Jyane spounge bathing scene was cut."
Alan: "Yes halfway through production. He started to shave his back, and..."

a little darker than other episodes but i still enjoyed the episode. i liked that they could have darker moments and then throw in some comedy, like jaynes hat and asking zoe and mal why they'd ordered a dead body.

Jaynes hat is classic. Pretty deep ep too...

Jayne was class in this ep, his hat and the whole 'what'd you all order a dead guy for?' quote was just plain hilarious :D

Very dark ep too, this has got to be one of my favourite's :)

One of my favourites- I love the darkness of it, and Jayne's Hat.....I'll have to knit myself one sometime. :D

One of my favourite quotes, possibley ever:

Tracy: "When you can't run, you crawl, and when you can't crawl, when you can't do that..."
Zoe: "You find someone to carry you."

I think that quote truely encompasses what the entire series was about.

I've seen this episode countless number of times and I still jump every single time... :P

This is an awesome episode. The final scene is so emotional, I almost cried the first time I saw it. :(

Alan and Jewel are great for the commentary. Personally this is my favourite episode, just beating War Stories, it just has everything IMO and is the episode I would use to say "This is why people love this show". The final scene is brilliant, and if I watch all of the episodes, I leave this until last, as it should have been, and end it with the funeral scene. Love the outtakes for this as well, when they turn to look at the crew standing around the coffin, and Nathan moves to be in every shot, then he hugs the "corpsified" Jonathan Woodward

I love that scene where they stand around the coffin listening to the recording- I also love how it was repeated throughout the show. A great piece of voicework there by Jonathan Woodward, the emotion was perfect.

Listening to the recording the first time I had to stop and listen to part of it again, the part when he said he wanted to be taken back to his parents on St Albans, made me laugh because I was living in St Albans at the time! (the town, not the planet)

It made me jump too, the first few times I saw it, but I think I've seen it too many times now :(

Good ep liked the Simon Kaylee scene in the beginning and how they held hands at the end. It was a dark ep very powerful.

Cool episode. Especially about the guy not being dead after all. Creeped me out! But some pretty impressive flying by Wash!

The Message is easily my favorite episode of Firefly. It's not a coincidence that it's also the darkest. :P I do like the hard-hitting stuff.

Trace's flashbacks with Mal and Zoe were wonderful and really built up an interesting dynamic with the two of them. One of my favorite things about this episode is that Trace never got his life together after the war. A lot of people go through something big and traumatic while others might look on and wonder when they're going to bounce back. Trace never did, which lead to some very questionable choices later.

My other favorite part about this episode is the haunting soundtrack. The mournful piano and violins made this episode's soundtrack the most memorable of the entire series.

i did not like this epsiode.

It's my least favorite Firefly episode. There are some great lines (but that's pretty much every Firefly episode), and Jayne's hat is all sorts of awesome, but I cannot stand the Tracey character, or the actor who plays him.

I love Jayne's hat :D I have one, but not in orange *cry*

I have one. A friend of mine who knits made me one. It's pretty much the only reason I am even remotely looking forward to winter, so I can wear it. :)

Watched this episode for the first time yesterday, enjoyed it but thought there was a gaping hole in the middle - why didn't Mal explain what their plan was? If he had explained it, they could have avoided killing their friend. Why did they just leave him thinking they were betrayers? It didn't seem to quite fit that they wouldn't try to talk him down, letting him know their plan to avoid people - anyone - dying.
