After a long battle fought by "Firefly" fans to keep the series alive, Whedon has found a new outlet for his story - a sci-fi movie called "Serenity."
In it, Captain Mal Reynolds (Nathan Fillion) leads his crew (Gina Torres, Jewell Staite, Alan Tudyk, Adam Baldwin) through various robberies and transport jobs. After being on the losing side in a galactic civil war, they are just trying to survive. But when Reynolds takes on two more passengers, who are fugitives from the Universal Alliance, he brings his ship, Serenity, and its crew to the edge of possible annihilation.
Sitting in a West Hollywood hotel suite, Whedon expresses his excitement with his feature directorial debut and admits to being "Firefly's" biggest fan.
From "Firefly" to "Serenity" - what brought you on this journey?
Originally, it was about finishing the story or maybe doing it on another network or a TV movie to wrap it up. When the opportunity to do it as a movie came, it became a different animal. It wasn't about wrapping it up. It became more of a re-imagining of it without annoying the fans.
