    DeLuise: SG-1 Is Family

Peter DeLuise, who has directed dozens of episodes of SCI FI
Channel's original series Stargate SG-1, told SCI FI Wire that he
wrote an early episode of the upcoming eighth season, "Affinity,"
which he also helmed. "'Affinity' has to do ... with the fact that
both Carter [Amanda Tapping] and Teal'c [Christopher Judge] feel like
they're entitled to a private life," DeLuise said in an interview
during a break in shooting last May near Vancouver, B.C. "They want a
sense of belonging. They want to have intimacy in their lives. And
they don't. [But] it's not just about saving the world week after
    week."

In the episode, the eighth on the production schedule, the two
characters reveal seldom-seen sides, DeLuise said. "In Teal'c's case,
he gets an apartment outside the base, and he wants to be free to eat
gelato and do tai chi in the park, right? And in Carter's case, she
wants to ... have the right to have a relationship, because she's
been denied that for a long time because of her relationship with
O'Neill [Richard Dean Anderson], which has been very safe. ... So
we've got two storylines, where Teal'c and Carter are both actively
pursuing a private life, and ... problems ensue, as they say."

The episode is in keeping with the tone of the new season, DeLuise
added. "Season eight is ... more introspective," he said. "It's much
more cerebral, and it has a lot to do with, in my mind, the
    specialness of the characters."

For DeLuise—who was a regular cast member in the 1993 SF TV series
SeaQuest DSV—Stargate SG-1 is also a family affair. His brother David
DeLuise has a recurring role as Carter's love interest, Denver cop
Pete Shanahan. Another brother, Michael (who also co-starred in
SeaQuest), appeared in SG-1's 100th anniversary episode, "Wormhole X-
Treme!" (in which Peter also appeared as himself). And Peter's
father, the famed actor and comedian Dom DeLuise, appeared in in a
dual role in the season three episode "Urgo," which Peter
directed. "My mom's the only one who hasn't been on the show yet,"
Peter said. Stargate SG-1 kicks off its eighth season with a two-hour
    premiere at 9 p.m. ET/PT July 9.

Okay, maybe I missed something or my memory serves me wrong, but PDL was talking about his brother-in-law in the DVD commentary for "Death Knell", right? Doesn't that mean that he should have a sister?

For the rest of the article: I haven't read comments like "They have a need for privacy." Gives me some food for thought (The characters are humans after all )
No, 'Eureka' is Greek for 'This bath is too hot.'

Hi Sonya! Welcome to GW. Don't worry...you're not alone in your sentiments. It's just that - as usual with debates - the offended party is usually the loudest. I have zero problem with the concept or characterization of Pete, but I know people disagree with me and I choose not to participate in the debate other than to say just that.

Back to the article: I really like PDL. And according to Dom DeLuise's biography on IMDB, he has three sons. By brother-in-law, he could mean his wife's sister's husband? I'd have to go draw a chart.

Welcome to the board, Sonya. Nothing wrong with liking Sam/Pete. I'm kinda partial to them, myself. If you're interested, there's a Pro Sam/Pete ship thread for people who like the pairing to discuss their feelings without fear of persecution. Just follow the link and enjoy!

Ahh, SeaQuest... what a good show before it was canceled.
If you've seen a Jeff O'Connor or a JeffZero or a Jeff Zero or a JeffZeroConnor elsewhere on the net, there's a considerable chance it's me.

I love the DeLuise family. I miss SeaQuest too. Peter and Michael were great on that show. I even like David despite the fact that I didn't really click with the Pete character. I don't think of him as a stalker nor do I wish horrible and painful things to happen to him like some of the stuff I've read it's just that you either click with a character or you don't. But I'm reserving judgement until I see him in season 8. After all he's only been in one episode. Maybe he'll grow on me.

I'd love to see Peter actually have a part on the show other than just a background cameo. They recycle actors all the time (they're using Garwin Sanford in Atlantis. I mean Narim for goodness sakes!) so I don't see why Peter couldn't play a small part. You know, with speaking and stuff.

Really? What episode in season 7 has Pete been in besides Chimera? I'm pretty certain that Chimera is the only episode he's been in so far until season 8.

Like I said it would be funny if he had an actual part instead of just the one second cameos that he's had up until now.

that would take the fun out of the cameos, imo.

The brother-in-law must be his wife's brother.

But they should get Mom DeLuise on the show. I mean, really. Now it's a thing. They gotta do the thing.
