It is never a nice duty as a Webmaster to report sad news of actors, producers or writers who have passed away due to illness, but it is a duty made somewhat more profound when you have spent time with such a person.
The BBC reported earlier this morning that much loved actor Michael Sheard passed away due to complications involving cancer. I was fortunate enough to meet Michael earlier this year at the SFBall, which is a convention that raises money in aid of making lives more bearable for those who are afflicted with Cancer.
As an actor Michael Sheard enjoyed a career, which spanned 40 years, during which time he made fairly prominent guest roles during a 20-year period of Dr. Who. In total the actor guest starred in six Dr Who stories among which were the classic Tom Baker episode ‘Pyramids Of Mars’ in which he portrayed Laurence Scarman and his last role in Dr Who was that of ‘The Headmaster’ in the episode ‘Remembrance Of The Daleks’. Michael Sheard over the years took great pride in the fact that out of most actors he was one who had acted alongside more Doctors on Dr Who than anyone, the only Doctor he never got to perform alongside in the original Dr Who series was Patrick Troughton’s Doctor.
