Louisville's summer viewing in step with nation; 'Dancing' No. 1
by Tom Dorsey

Louisville was in step with the rest of the country when it came to the most-watched program of the summer.

Many dramas don't do well in summer reruns. The problem is that viewers aren't interested in watching an episode that's aired two or three times in a year because they already know what's happened.

That didn't stop local audiences from making CBS' "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" repeats No. 2 and "Without a Trace" No. 3. But ABC's "Lost," a huge hit the rest of the year, was 75 in Louisville summer viewing. An even bigger shocker was that "Desperate Housewives," a smash hit during the regular season, didn't even make the top 100 in Louisville last month.

**snippity doo-dah**

Here's a curiosity: Several shows that ranked in the national Nielsen ratings during the regular season were no-shows in the local 100 programs. Those would include "Hell's Kitchen" on Fox, "I Want to be a Hilton" on NBC, "The Cut" on CBS and "Empire" on ABC.

TNT's auto racing claimed the top two most-watched cable shows in this area. Children's programs on cable channels are big in the summer when the kids are out of school, taking four of the top-10 rankings and nine of the top 20. "Stargate Atlantis" was No. 9 for Sci-Fi, and "Battlestar Galactica" was 12. TNT's "Into the West" was 13, and "The Closer" on that channel was 23. USA's "Monk," which was a top five cable show around the country, finished 41 here.
