    SG-1's new role - possible S8 spoilers

It's pretty obvious, at this stage, that SG1 are more specialist consultants, in just about every off-world problem that could arise, than an exploration team.

Since, Jack is gonna become the SGC commander, do you think that he will send out SG1 more or keep them as consultants? I mean, he could want them to be in on the action and keep getting them to explore. Or he could decide that he wants to protect them and keep them locked up in the SGC, only letting them out for serious problems.

I think I would prefer the consultant option. I'd prefer if they only went on the really action-packed missions where they are needed, rather than boring missions with a couple of problems here and there (Emancipation being the perfect example).

    What do you think?

Ah but Jack can't know whether or not the missions will be action packed or not.
Unless they keep sending SG-1 to Goa'uld strongholds etc.
Teal'c: A serpent guard, a horus guard and a setesh guard meet on a neutral planet. It is a tense moment. The serpent guard's eyes glow. The horus guards beak glistens. The Setesh guard's nose drips.

What I mean is when an off-world team dials in may-daying for help and SG1 go thru the gate to save whoever has been captured

By the way, usually I don't notice these things, but this one stuck out like a sore thumb. But, how on Earth, did you become a mature-symbiote with only 49 posts?

So, why isn't this in the season 8 folder? There's lots of discussion going on there about "consulting".

I think the point of being on a team is to go out on missions and they won't know if they're boring or not til they get there.

There are speciality teams like the diplomatic one, but I don't think the makeup of SG1 would fit that kind of role. Their skills are too diverse, they'd be consulting on everything! Besides, for the sake of the show (meaning the happiness of its fans), they had better be out there exploring

SG1 would mostly be used as strategists. Like when a replicator problem arises they'd be sent out, or if there was danger of a threat to a long-term operation they'd be sent out, like with the Unas in the mining operation.

And you'll notice what I'm talking about when you look at the s7 eps. In every ep after Enemy Mine, they only go on missions for which they are specifically called out for. They don't go exploring. Other teams do that and then, if there's a problem, sg1 come out to deal with it.

The show is called Stargate SG-1.

However, the show is not called Stargate SG-1 Going To Other Planets And Saving The Galaxy. I think SG-1 as a consultant team might very-well have it's own concepts that have yet to be tapped. Don't get me wrong, we do need to be going off-world and saving the Earth from the latest unpackaged bad boy, but I've always had a soft spot for fresh concepts.

Too much of anything isn't good, however.

I agree. Fresh concepts are very nice to have on the show. But I think that they could be brought into it via the consultant role. IE. There's a problem, go fetch sg1, sg1 try to slove the problem, encopunter the fresh concept, save the day (or break for the summer ) and go home.

Another good thing about the idea of consultants is that there would be much more deaths. No member is going to die anytime soon, without us knowing first. Since, if sg6, for example, encountered a problem, they would hang around and solve the problem with sg1 and get killed in the progress. And everyone's happy.

Okay, that makes NO sense at all. Consultants are far LESS likely to be killed than first contact teams.
