Who is your favorite deep space 9 character?

Sisko - I wonder how many people will go for miscounted

I was highly tempted to go for O'Brien or Bashir simply because they seem so laid back, but I had to go for Odo in the end. Can't help but feel sorry for him.

Garak is my favorite---there's so much more to him than he lets on. Easy to like, but I wouldn't trust him for a minute. If I could have voted for more than one favorite, I'd also include Gul Dukat, one of the most interesting and complex villains in Star Trek (imho)...... Both actors did a great job getting across the dark edginess of their characters.

I chose Worf, mainly because he was a good addition to DS9. And I read in TV Guide, that they added him because the ratings were falling, and they needed some one to boost the ratings

Deep Space Nine is probably the most difficult one to pick favourite characters from: I liked Quark, Odo and Bashir for very different reasons... Garak was an intriguing, multifaceted enigma through and through... Jadzia... because the Trills were such a fascinating race. Actually, all the alien races on this show were fascinating...
Hmmm... have to think hard for this one...

Maybe a slight edge to Jadzia...maybe

I always liked Bashir the best. He could be a little annoying sometimes but he was great.

I agree. I think Bashir grew the most over the course of the series; IMHO, he was the best-developed character.

... and I have a thing for accents, but that's beside the point.

DS9 has so many great characters, but i think Garak is he best, closely followedy by Quark. Andrew Robinson did a perfect job of making him likable, despite him being a nasty piece of work.

I think Sisko was the worst, Avery brooks cant act for a start.

he was alright. not the best captain. he was good at conveying his love for jake, but that relationship IMHO was a little ridiculous. It seemed to perfect. and as for when sisko started shouting, why did he start leaving big gaps??

But i voted for garak. he brightened up every episode he was in. i loved his pleasant look he had, yet he was such a cold hearted killer! like in that ep where quark sells his body on the ferengi market thing and he's demonstrating hos he could kill him! brilliant. but DS9 had so many brilliant characters and rapports.

Personally my favorite ST and one of my favorite all time shows!

In Order....
1) Sisko...Spectacluar job playing this part!.
2) Worf...Very deep charcater on DS9.
3) Garak...Great acting, great character, did'nt get nearly enough of him!.
4) Quark...Simply Armin Shimerman, brilliant.
5) Odo...It was great watching his character grow throughout the series.
6) O'Brien...Much better on DS9
7) Bashir...Garak and his relationship was my favorite on DS9
8) Mortok...Klingon General that was nothing but class!.
9) Weyon...Started out as a hated character but won me over in the end!.
10) Jadzia Dax...Beautiful and smart.
11) Kira...Did'nt like her at first, but learned to love in the end.
12) Dukat...Loved watching him fail :D
13) Damar...Hated him at first but turned out to be a big part of season 7

Garak, totally he seemed so nice but he could have really stabbed you in the back anytime he wanted. And there was so much you didn't know about him that just made him so intresting.I loved Damar and Dukat too. Damar because he goes from being a one demenional lackey, to this great traitor and then hero of Cardassia. And Dukat he was just such an insane sadist you had to love him especailly his relationship or what he thought was a relationship with Kira. And Ziyal she was just so specail to all of them I wish they hadn't killed her off I would have loved to seen where the series would have gone with her alive. If you haven't already figured I have a Cardie thing.

oh elim garak was my favourite tha banter between him and odo in the episode two parter the die is cast is superb the dark side of garak as him being the old interrogater garak and the good side him saving odo's lifes and his funny yet crude jokes not bad for a cardassian who i think many people dislike not just because thay are the bad guys in the show but they may seem a little uninteresting but they were probably the best with the characters.

garak- cockey and mysterious with his dark and light side
dammar- his insoborbdanate attitude to the dominion and his gradual fall into his alchohol addiction
dukat- his calm face and his pure evil side in the episode "waltz" pure character driven episodes are a bet that a cardasian is in their somewhere.

The show was so unlike any other Star Trek in it's successful ensemble approach that it is very difficult to pick a favorite. I went with Elim Garak, but I could have just as easily chosen Odo, or even an option not listed, General Martok. Two out of the three aren't even regular cast members, but just frequently appearing guest stars. The villains were also fantastic. Kai Wynn and Gul Dukat were remarkably well portrayed, as was Weyoun.

the actors and actresses who started off a bit weak were professional and polished in their roles in short order. The delicious Nana Visitor who was challenged by "Duet" early in the show was polished an believable as Kira Nerys by the beginning of Season 4. Cirroc Lofton, probably the most understandably green in his role as Jake Sisco, was really quite good by Season 5.

had to vote for Ezri for the purely superficial reason that Nicole DeBoer is such a nice person...I'm not saying that the rest of the cast arent, it's just she's one of the ones I've met and I was a little girl, starstruck.

It was a tough choice between O'Brien, Bashir and Sisko, but in the end it had to be Sisko purely because he is THE MAN he is the best Captain and he totally kicks ass.

It was hard to choose, the characters are some of the best Star Trek has to offer. But, although Sisko and Bashir were close, Garak is definately the best. Apart from everything else cool about Garak, the fact that he was a claustrophobic Cardassian spy just puts him that far above the rest.

Julian Bashir, definitely. What can I say, I have a thing for docs! And he wasn't even wearing a lab coat... :D

The docs on ST were all pretty good and round characters. I liked Julian a lot, a greenhorn at first, geeky and arrogant, who learned and changed so much during the seven years. I liked the story about his genetical enhancement, and that he had this strange friendship with Garak and this warm friendship with Miles!

As for Julian, I used to think I was all alone in my swooning. It's good to see a kindred spirit! :D Yeah, good to see other Julian fans! :)

Garak, plain and simple.

But it's such a hard choice.
Bashir was the one I drooled over (those eyes, that voice, those endless legs...)
The Sisko was well, The Dude, say no more.
Kira was so feisty and full of fire.
O'Brien was in my favourite buddy relationship of the show, Bashir and O'Brien were comedy gold (and Meaney is such a superb actor)
Odo was a grumpy old bugger, gotta love him, in particular his buddy relationship with Quark.
Quark himself for thumbing his nose at the Federation and it's ideals.
Jadzia and Ezri for eye candy - particularly Dax in the TOS era outfit or little Ezri in her waitress kit during the casino heist.

I voted for Quark because he is unique in all of science fiction. At the same time, he is a main character who is both protagonist and antagonist. His lust for profit and general sneakiness with an undertone of gradual redemption make for a tasty mix. He also understands hoomans better than most of us understand ourselves and is frequently the mouthpiece for profound statements about what it means to be human. All of this would only get a nomination, but the man who plays him adds a lot of nuance and passion to the part.

A number of these statements also apply to Garak..

Hard to say really.

DS9 had more overall characters than other Trek series I can think of, so they introduced a lot of great characters like Garak, Quark, Sisko, Rom, Jadzea, Morn and then there is of course Worf being carried over from TNG.

I'm usually crappy with faves, and fave DS9 is a tough one, but i'd probably go with Sisko or Worf.

Like some of you, this was a tough choice, but I went with Damar. The thing I liked most about DS-9 was the large ensemble of supporting cast. I liked all the main characters of course but they had some really nice support cast - Garrek, DuKat etc.

Damar started out as this annoying side kick for Dukat, shot Dukat's daughter, took over Cardassia (as much as the founders would let him) fell into alcholism and then redeemed himself to be a hero to his people at the cost of everything. Once he rebelled (I just loved how he picked the Cloning facility..as a message to Weyon) he had to accept help from his enemy and saw all his friends and family killed. I just think this character came full circle and it's too bad he died. I would have liked to see him rebuild Cardassia.

So he got my one vote, but Garrek, Worf, Bashir, O-Brien, Kira..would have gotton one too! There really wasn't anyone I didn't like. They are all special characters.

That is a very tough chouce because I love Kira, Bashir and Garak equally...I think. They are great fully rounded characters. Especially Garak has always been intriguing but I also love Bashir the whole thing abour Section 31 and his genetic engineering and there is of course our favourite Bajoran with her gigantic chip on the shoulder...sigh....I can't decide. Laughs, that's the problem with DS9, they were all such good characters, well written, complex and interesting. No one was a saint, and even the bad guys had real personality. Dukat was a psudo-Nazi *******, but he loved his daughter and wanted the best for her; he was complicated, they all were. Sisko, hero of the show, could be ruthless, sometimes beyond the villians.

My vote went to our plain and simple tailor.
But it was a very close call; I loved them all.

Julian Bashir. I think he is one of the best characters in ST ever.
It was fantastic character development, from naive and green doctor, who evolved in war hardened veteran, who has seen too much but still was able to stay caring doctor and friend.
His friendship with Miles was one of the funniest thing I have seen so far. I canīt think about any other in any ST show.
And I had always weakness for scientists, especially the snarky, sexy ones :cameron:
I think Garak and Dax would be close behind him. I think Jadzia and Ezri were very different characters, both brilliant in their own way.

But itīs really hard to choose in DS9. I canīt think one single bad character there. It would be hard poll to choose who I DONīT like :cameron:

I voted for Kira. I love most of the DS9 characters, but she's definately my favorite. From the very first episode, I could see a lot of myself in her. She's a combination of me and what I wish I could be. She's very real and believable. She has strengths and weaknesses. She went through a lot of bad stuff, but it only made her stronger. She's a great fighter, a great leader, and a great officer.

Plus Nog's little bits when he lives in the holosuite, some of the best episodes in the show in my opinion. So he's up there too..

I have to agree DS-9 has the best all round cast in Star Trek and there is no one on the show that I dislike including the Heroes and Villians, and that is hard to come across in any T.V show nowadays.

This poll is a little unfair - out of all the Treks DS9 has done the best job of using its main, recurring and guest characters very well - they are all great in different ways!

In the end I voted with the character I can relate to on some levels, and who I would love to play myself. - Dr Bashir. Alex Siddig did an excellent job of taking this irritating know it all from Starfleet Medical the start of the series, and along with the writers, turned him into a true successor to Dr McCoy, while keeping Julian his own man. - He isn't a copy of McCoy. At first when they did the whole genetic manipulation arc I was worried, but they pulled it off brilliantly.

My runner up? Colonel Kira. For similar reasons. Great character, brilliantly written, potrayed by a powerful actress.

As for the Daxes, I missed Jadzia as well, but they got it right in bringing in Ezri played by Nicole De Boer. They gave us the oportunity to see things from Sisko's perspective. He missed Curzon, but a piece of Curzon carried on with Jadzia though Dax. Ditto for us, as bit of Jadzia has been carried to Ezri in the same way.

I hope that Trek picks up on B5 and SG1 in the DVD movie idea. - A DS9 story would be really cool.

oohh this was hard.

The Characters that were the main weekly cast were hard enough to pick from, so I will bore you all now and list mine by category:

DS9 Crew cast:

My fave has to be Odo, he was grumpy, withdrawn at the beggining and really lightened up towards the end, he was mysterious and worked so well with many other characters, that said I'd have to choose Garak, who was very well acted, he was again mysterious, witty and at times when it was called from, unforgiving and appeared as cruel Cardassian one minute and a simple defector/Tailor the next.

Bady Guys:

has to be Both Dukat and Weyoun, they worked well on screen together, with their posturing, standoffish-ness and bickering.
Dukat was complex, you could almost empathise to his side, then the next week you saw a cruel madman the next.

Weyoun was played by a great actor anyway, again he was unique, creepy, dishonst, but on the surface tried to appear genunine, which made his character seem all the more devious!

Runners up were:

Quark
Kira
Bashir
Sisko

all of the others i appreciated, but don't hold with such a high esteem, they worked well, just not my favourites.

:D

Dr. Bashir (once he gets over his puppy-eagerness in season 1), Worf, Kira and Gul Dukat, in that order.

Hello, I might be a minority, but I loved Odo in the beginning. :)
He was sour, acerbic, and condescending with a great sarcastic bite in some of the dialogue, but I don't know...in a good way! He was one of those characters who you always knew where he stood on an issue. I thought he was so cool when I was a kid. Still watch DS9 a bunch too. :)
