I'm feeling the need to watch this tonight.

God bless and keep Dom's family.

OT:
I cannot believe I didn't realize he was Pizza the Hut. :D I still call Pizza Hut that.

I'd heard he was in Spaceballs but didn't have a clue who he was!

SAM: Why does it taste so good?
JACK: I dunno. All I do know is…I don’t even like yogurt.

URGO : Don’t do this please. What can I do to make you like me?

Like you? We love you!!

RIP Mr. Urgo. *sniff*

It makes me wonder what the heck he said... lol!!

December 2nd, 2009, 01:22 PM
I really liked this episode. It may have to do with Dom being on my favorite show, but hey it's funny. It's nice to have an episode where everyone isn't running around shooting guns and just put them into funny situations and dialogue. It shows other parts of their personality that wouldn't otherwise come if not in that situation. Jack O'Neill/RDA shows just how much he can riff on this type of story too and Teal'c drinking the coffee just split me. I wish Dom DeLuise could have appeared in a follow up and am sadded by his passing. This episode, in my mind is one of the best and funniest of all three series.

gateship15
December 2nd, 2009, 01:26 PM

gateship15

lol yes definitely since daniel takes his work very seriously

AresLover452
December 2nd, 2009, 03:09 PM
I could only imagine Daniel trying to work with Urgo shouting at him, bugging him, and then trying to get daniel to interact with him... lol!!

gateship15
December 2nd, 2009, 03:31 PM

AresLover452

lol thats true i don't think he ever shuts up

AresLover452
December 2nd, 2009, 04:16 PM
No, and that is why I want the off button you talking about....way back when

gateship15
December 2nd, 2009, 04:25 PM

My friend told me about this episode, and MUST admit it kept me in stitches. Urgo would have drived me to insanity! LOL The humor in this episode is brilliant and Sam talking to herself to Urgo (but to the camera) was class.

"Don't do that. That's rude." Priceless! LOL

Urgo was cool, but I wouldn't want him in my head all the time.

Teal'c drinking that steaming, hot coffee was funny. Sam talking to Urgo was funny too. This episode was great. It was filled with lots of comedy.

I looked here when I saw "Urgo" getting lower viewer ratings a few other places. I always like the episode --

"He didn't mean to!"
"He didn't mean to!"
"He didn't mean to!"

"It was not his intention."

That scene makes me laugh every time. Dom DeLuise was hilarious as Urgo and really hammed it up with Togar. Ultimately Urgo is an unforgettable side character - one that makes me laugh to this day.

RIP Don and Dom

Lunaeclipse
December 25th, 2010, 01:57 PM
There are many funny moments in this ep. I think it was a nice change from going off world and meeting new 'ppl'. It was showing someone around theirs, so to speak, even if it was only Cheyenne Mountain.

Just watched this episode last night, the one part I thought was funny was when they were about to talk to the person about how to get Urgo out of their head and how urgo said that they should go to Mauii as Jack was thinking about it the look on his face and Sams face was funny.

Just watched this episode last night, the one part I thought was funny was when they were about to talk to the person about how to get Urgo out of their head and how urgo said that they should go to Mauii as Jack was thinking about it the look on his face and Sams face was funny.

Jack says a lot with his facial expressions.

I loved this episode, it was very funny. That Urgo character is hilarious. My favourite quote was when Jack said: 'Apparently all desserts on base are in grave danger'

Hilarious episode. There has been a lot of funny stuff in the show up to this point, but I think this episode is the first outright comedy episode. And it's a great one. Dom DeLuise is really on form, and does a great job at playing two characters in the end scenes. A lot of funny lines, and the different reactions from different SG-1 members to him is great.

RATING: 8.5 out of 10

This is the one episode of SG-1 that I haven't seen again since it first aired because I really didn't like it! I made myself watch it for the re-watch with the view that I may think differently about it on giving it another go. I really struggled to get through it, and my opinion of it hasn't changed even after the passing years.

So, I will take heed of the wise saying and leave this episode with, 'if you can't say anything good about something, don't say anything at all.'

I like this ep. Urgo cracks me up. Jack did a great job confusing Teal'c with all different ways of saying bye haha. I'm glad Urgo wasn't destroyed.

This must be the ep that starts the Jelly/Jello craze. I love blue jelly.

Teal'c said indeed in a previous ep but now I can't remember which one :indeed:

EDIT: Now I remember! He says it in Rules of Engagement.

5pm and another ep of SG1

1. SG1 go through to a tropical paradise and...OK...

2. Teal'c drinks hot coffee...eyebrows raised...

3. Hello Urgo, as I said back in '09 I eventually found out Dom played someone in Spaceballs but certainly first time I watched this ep, I'd never heard of Dom before.

4. JUst when you think for one second they've gotten rid of him...you remember they haven't sung "row, row, row your boat" yet...

An early attempt at a comedy ep...one that didn't quite work for my money...my reactions were always  rather than :jack_new_anime06:

I really love this episode. It's one of the top 5 episodes of Season 3.

Dom is just a great guest star.

I still laugh during that scene where Teal'c inhales that whole container of steaming hot coffee.

I re-watched this ep. only because of the "Stargate Re-Watch," but I'm glad I did. Good fun. Lots of laughs. Dom DeLuise can really annoy some people, so I'm not surprised by the posters who didn't enoy it. Though I liked it, I don't imagine re-watching it again until at least several years have passed.

I feel like a minority here. There were some chuckles here or there for me, but this has always been an episode I just didn't particularly enjoy. I rewatch Stargate SG-1 frequently but this is one of the episodes I just cannot sit through. I just find it dull. And that bums me out because I like almost every single episode of season 1-8 with the exception of 2. Glad so many others enjoyed it though!

Terrible Terrible episode. It seems like everytime I watch this episode I hate it that much more. Urgo is risky in that it ride solely on SG-1's interaction with the Urgo actor. If that interaction is bad then the episode is doomed and it is which is Urgo is a terrible episode. I can't stand Urgo and his antics bore me and annoy me at the same time. The attempt to try to make me laugh just makes me cringe.

So, this is something I have trouble understanding during every rewatch I've seen people posting about it--if you feel this way, why watch the episode? There's no award for putting up with what you consider drek.

Note, I'm not saying don't post about the episode; I think it's important that those who dislike things are as free to express their opinions as those who like them.

The concept of attaching a device onto the brain of a specimen in order to explore the galaxy is a just another virtual reality show, right? Ok, maybe so long as the specimen's brains aren't scooped out with a giant scooper.
I found myself wondering whether real pie was used in the commissary scene and whether Shanks got a headache from giving Daniel's character's eyebrows such a workout.
Watching Janet while SG-1 conducted a conversation with Urgo in the Infirmary was almost as funny as Urgo...Is it defibrillating now? Woof!
And trying to catch Sam, Teal's and Daniel struggling to keep a straight face was priceless...a parasite, like the Goa'uld! Kree!
RDA and Dom were made for each other.
Excellent.

I so wish I could see the out-takes!

I found the ep hilarious and will watch it every time the opportunity arises, but I'll also watch Dom in other things (Cannonball Run, Robin Hood Men in Tights, etc). This ep didn't really advance the show overall, it was simply a fun, mindless kind of romp -not completely mindless -the idea of a race that "tags" the alien races it lures through the Stargate in order to study them was an interesting thought.

Urgo telling Jack that they should go to Maui because he saw it in Jack's mind "with big beaches and little bikinis"...and the look Sam shoots at him...are priceless.

I loved this episode, Dom is hilarious, and I think we have to know that at some point Peter was going to put him into at least one episode somewhere. I think the chemistry between the characters worked really well.
My favorite scene that made me LAUGH OUT LOUD was one Urgo mocks Teal'c saying "a parasite... like Goa'uld" I forgot about that and when I rewatched it I laughed so hard, and had to rewind and watch the scene twice.
What I really would have loved to see was all the behind-the-scenes interaction with the actors and Dom, you know there were a lot of laughs. I don't know Dom personally, but my aunt met him once years ago when she was waitressing - he came into her restaurant with a group of people and she waited on him, and he was making jokes with her, and even took her tray away at one point and started walking around the restaurant pretending to be a server. She said he had the whole restaurant laughing. I can just imagine what it must have been like to be on the set with him.

Lol, this episode reminded me of Farscape in which the protagonist John Crichton is implanted with a neurochip containing a neural clone of the main antagonist Scorpius designed to extract information from his brain. The chip manifests itself as hallucinations and eventually conversations with "Harvey". By the end, the chip took control over Crichton and was removed, but the clone remained trapped in Crichton's psyche and developed a personality quite different from the original Scorpius(due to being affected by full access to Crichton's pop culture mind. The clone was finally removed in the series finale completely.

As for the episode, Urgo was hilarious.

Best lines:

:jack: "One man's ceiling is another man's floor."
:daniel: "A Fool's paradise is a wise man's hell."
:jack: "Never run with...sissors?"

:hammond: "You just drank half a gallon of boiling hot coffee and you feel fine?"
:indeed:

:jack: "All I know is....I don't even like yogurt."

:jack:"Apparently, sir, all desserts on base are in mortal danger."

Urgo: "And who is Mary Steenburgen?!"

:sam: "No, I am not hungry. Go to the comissary and eat pie with Col. O'Neill!"

:jack: "I don't even know the words to 'Row, Row, Row....'" *watches tape* "Well, you couldn't really call that singing..."

Urgo: "I wanna live! I wanna experience the universe and eat pie."
:jack: "Who doesn't?"

There are lots of moments that I find funny and they're not necessarily Urgo, they're more the by-product of him... The way the characters I love react to him and how the other characters react to them reacting to him... Sam is adorable when she seems to be talking to herself in the hallway and when all four of the team are talking to Janet and she's looking at them like they're crazy...

I usually deeply dislike humour on screen and in video games, and occasionally get negative reception on the Internet about this as if sense of humour was my fault. But this episode was an exception. I liked "Urgo" and was looking forward to watch it again. I suspect it is because the team and General Hammond remained true to their character and never participated in the jokes.

In hardly any other case would I be glad for the team to be arrested or their state of mind questioned. But here it was necessary. I suppose it was good that they didn't bring in the crazy doctor McKenzy to keep the color of the story brighter.

My favorite scene is the description of the defibrillator, where Urgo applied language in such an unusual way – I haven't heard before about the device actively defibrillating. Any person or child could have asked those questions.

The ending could have been different and less patronizing, when the people placing demands aren't actually paying or sacrificing anything towards that goal.

This is a favorite episode of mine for several reasons:

1. To see the main characters of Daniel, Samantha Carter, Teal'c and Jack act as if nothing is really wrong but you can tell something is 'off' is hilarious.

2. The gulping down of the hot coffee bit by Teal'c and the reactions of his fellow teammates and General Hammond is hilarious to see how they are almost not blinking as they watch him.

3. The mess hall scene with the desserts on the table and how each one of the characters devours desserts before heading back to the briefing room and when Jack goes back to get another piece of pie before leaving it is so funny to watch.

4. The singing bit between the four characters is hilarious to see and listen to, I keep singing along with them especially Daniel because he does have a nice singing voice, it was the second time I had heard him sing, the first time was in an episode of "Saving Hope" he has a really nice voice if you listen carefully.

5. Dom DeLuise's scenes in the medical room where the four main ones see him yet Janet does not has me smiling throughout the scene.

6. The beginning where SG-1 returns through the gate and have a puzzled look on their face when they see that they are surrounded by guns and Hammond is looking at them from the control room and Daniel, Jack, Samantha and even Teal'c have puzzled expressions on their faces like "Huh?"

7. The bit where the team is put into confinement and Urgo first reveals himself to the team and the guard outside the room has no clue as to what is happening and when they greet Urgo and they all say "Hello Urgo" at the same time and he grins and laughs like a giddy school kid like "Yay I did it!"

Hm...despite not agreeing with you on other stuff (like "Rambo"-Langford in the "Stargate - Origins" topic), I agree with the suggestion (Swan Lake is beautiful, even if you aren't a fan of ballet, which I am normally not!)

As for the Episode: Just reached it in my re-watch (I jump episodes I remember too well, like "Pretense" or "Seth" and episodes I don't like much like "Learning Curve" (remember enough about it to not need to watch it)) and I've asked myself if the "Urgo-Device" couldn't have been used as a sophisticated SPY-DEVICE (!) because that's essentially what it has been doing before malfunctioning after all...

I'd love to see that thing implanted into some Lucian Alliance members or even Wraith :) (Have a cloaked Tel'tak or Alkesh in orbit for the thing to report to periodically!)

greetings LAX
ps: Not to mention that linking teams like that could have them communication wordlessly (ESP-Like!)...that would be a major tactical advantage!

I don't recall whether I liked this episode a lot more on any of my previous watches, but I didn't laugh as much as I thought I would. Yes, Urgo is a funny character and Dom DeLuise was a marvelous choice to play him, but I wasn't as taken with it this time round like I thought I would be, knowing it's a funny episode.

I don't know why really.

Anyway, SG-1 gets lured to a beautiful place (like Tahiti is a beautiful place -- if you've never seen Agent's of S.H.I.E.L.D. you'll be lost on the meaning, I'm sorry for that) and without their knowledge get implanted with a device which is supposed to register experiences and learn about the people and the planet its on, but instead the AI manifests itself and starts interacting with the team on different levels -- which leads to a handful of peculiar situations such as Teal'c drinking straight from the coffee can, all desserts getting appropriately tasted, SG-1 singing row row row your boat, and of course them talking to something no one else can see.

General Hammond and Doctor Fraiser are by far the most hilarious in this when they try to determine whether SG-1 hasn't really lost their marbles this time. :p

In the end, though, everybody wins. SG-1 can get back to their usual business. Urgo gets to stay alive, and Torgar gets to experience new things -- at least, that's what we're all hoping for cause man... he's boring. :p

How would you rate SG-1's "Urgo?"

I'm very fond of this episode (which I'm pretty sure means Jelgate hates it), but I've never considered it laugh-out-loud funny.

To me, one of the most humorous parts is Jack saying he can't/doesn't sing when RDA, in his youth, sang in a band (and played Adam on Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, a musical series).

I'm very fond of this episode (which I'm pretty sure means Jelgate hates it), but I've never considered it laugh-out-loud funny.

I don't know, maybe I found it more humorous when I was younger.

To me, one of the most humorous parts is Jack saying he can't/doesn't sing when RDA, in his youth, sang in a band (and played Adam on Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, a musical series).

LOL!! I didn't know but now it is indeed a lot more funny.

This is probably my most hated episode. I detest him with every fiber of my being. He is not funny or interesting to me. Just plain annoying who does nothing by jeopardizes SG1. I'm calling Beyond Terrible. That's right FH. I created a ranking for this episode

Another close one FH. I don't know if you are getting better or I am getting rusty

Let's put it this way, I might be getting less rustier. :p

I saw all the greys on the puzzle, and decided to pass this one up. Besides, I have time to watch another episode. :D

I loved watching this episode! And I did laugh out loud. It was fun seeing SG1 reacting to Urgo, and singing Row, Row, Row Your Boat. Also loved seeing Dom De'Luis as Urgo.

1.The footage from the MALP doesn’t show that hidden chamber what Carter discovered later.

19:04 for the puzzle. I was half listening to my husband and had to make the proper responses to what he was saying. ;)

Multitasking -- even women are horrible at it. Or at least, some of us are. :p

If multi-tasking means working on many things at once, it's not true. What the brain does is more like switching from task to task in short bursts. It's must less efficient than doing one thing at a time, but also much less boring.

Some brains can, but others really can't... trust me, I know. :p

Then again, I have the literal attention span of a gnat. ;)
So, bouncing around tasks means none of them will get finished.

It honestly depends on what I am doing. I am attempting to knit my first pair of socks, and I had to pause my show, because I needed to focus on the toe and heel which I messed up anyway. :p.

Sock toes are much easier when you knit from the toes up.
