And just as I understood WHY they did what they did in Gemini, I understand WHY they did what they did in Avalon Part II and Origin. Does it change the consequences? Did RepliCarter still cause problems (understatements #2 and #3)? Will the Ori still cause problems (understatements #4 and #5)?

I just want to know why no one seems to care in this particular instance.

Oh wait... It's all coming back to me.

if sam had been the one to alert the ori to our presence, the anti-sam ppl would be having a fit. and they'd just add that to sam's list of monumental failures. but when it's someone else, especially do-no-wrong daniel, then every excuse in the book is given for him. there is nothing fair about fandom, and the only thing you can count on is the squeakiest wheel getting the most attention.

Necklace for "cure."
Power Coil for necklace.
Cargo ship for power coil.
Impossibly dangerous situation for cargo ship.

...Legend of Zelda, anyone?

Over a week has passed, and I haven't posted my routine reactions on the ep, so here goes:

This one was ultimately forgettable for me, but I still enjoyed it. It did, however, seem broken up and detached, the sequence of events being ruined. I understand it was mostly for comedic value, and I enjoyed some of those aspects. The Raiders comment cracked me up, and I did like SG-Cameron and the Gang working together to forumulate that final plan to get the ship. The escape seemed a bit too easy, but the Lucian Alliance seems like a good idea. Too bad we have to wait till after the break to see more from them.

Not enough Mitchell, Daniel, and Teal'c, either. I like Vala, and Daniel gets his big parts in the other four eps I've seen, but Mitchell and Teal'c seem neglected. Probably my least favorite ep thus far, but I still enjoyed it and it has great rewatch value! :D

So far, from most enjoyable to least:

1. The Powers That Be
2. Avalon Part 2
3. Origin
4. Avalon Part 1
5. The Ties that Bind

I personally love this episode. My sis and I were saying the scenario (having to track down and trade various items) would be great for a video game level.
Also, that "monk" is awesome! :D

You know, those leathers Mitchell and Daniel are wearing look like clothes someone would wear in the Princess Bride (I was inspired to by the DVD after seeing this stargate ep...the fact that it was only $9.00 at Best Buy helped that decision).

EDIT: I keep expecting the Monk to say his ship can "make the Kessel run in less then 5 parsecs, it doesnt look like much but its got it where it counts."

After re-watching The Ties That Bind last night, I truly enjoyed it more than the first time. I found Vala to be deliciously wicked and funny and although it may not have been "classic" Stargate, it was extremely entertaining and funny. I missed a few things on my first go around.

And ValaCB, it looks like you're going to get your wish......but I'm not getting mine. Oh well, c'est la vie. ;)

Well, I'm now totally confused.....you posted you "loved the episode", your sig literally screams you want Vala back...I previously was under the impression that she wouldn't be back sooner than next season, and now find out that she is most likely returning in epsode 19 :S ( I believe) AND you don't care, because Stargate is NO longer your favorite show. Then answer me this...WHY the are you here? Sorry, but I just don't get it.

It's obvious you were NEVER a Stargate fan.......I give up. Go make some other lucky show your favorite. :S

I agree, that IS a problem, so in the meantime, until we are lucky enough to have CB in her own series.....I guess it's Farscape reruns. ;) I'm in the States, so I have to rely on DVD's and I have never seen CB in anything else, besides the movie Pitch Black. She'a marvelous actress and if I were a producer, I'd grab her up in milisecond! Oh well.....

Edit: Wait.....TPTB did grab her for another show this season, on Stargate....it's a start. There's always NEXT season! ;)

The episode was... interesting. The whole “find this to get this to trade for that” thing seemed rather... weird, but it could've been worse.

Of all things, I wish that someone from the Lucian Alliance had mentioned Daniel... Or should I say...

“Go! Bring us Vala and her companion, Hans Olo!”

Maybe I'm a simple man, but I would've cracked up had that line popped up.

A run of the mill episode. The acting was okay and the humor not so..humorous. The whole plot was a bit out there to say the least but it has originality to it. The ending was bad though. A major anti-climactic ending if there ever was one.

I thought this was a fantastic episode, it was only 901 that seemed iffy to me. Vala is fantastic and her interaction with Danny is great, I hope to be seeing more of her soon.

Having the Grand Nagus was interesting, and the whole idea of this episode was so comical. Going from one place, to another. Little annoyed about the change in wormhole, hope this was an FX goof to be fixed later on.

Also, when Vala is in Dannys bed. What are the name of her undies? Do they have like a specific name?

Very good episode this one, the MS/CB interaction hasnt let up since the two met up in Avalon 1 and it is great to watch. Yay for the next episode, more Vala. Oh and the Lucian Allience, its going to be good.

If we keep getting this quality of episodes then are be happy.

Overall a good and very funny episode, I again liked the interaction between Vala and Daniel, and the scavanger hunt showed what the galaxy was like without the Goa'uld.

I also liked the comments Vala made about the man's Manhood, although I hope they fix the Stargate so the old wormhole comes back. And Teal'c role could have been a bit more important.

Although ending on a negative I enjoyed it, and hope it follows on with the same standards next week.

Oh dear, Oh dear, Oh dear.

TPTB have lost the ability to make good quality comedy eps.

Furthermore, there is a very simple reason why Daniel doesn't want to shag Vala senseless. He's got enough integrity not to shag someone who's in dire need of a shrink.

She's a headcase, a liability, she's of no use to the SGC whatsoever.

The plot of this ep was rank, Mitchell feels flat, and put it this way...

If anyone wants to write S9 ep synopses from here on in for Matt G's Place, give me an email.

I'll stick with Atlantis.

Strange, I thought this was a good episode, The whole Ori story line was getting a bit dragged out for my liking and it was nice to get back to what SG-1 do, travel accross the galaxy. Daniel and Vala were on top form through out, Mitchell did for a moment remind me of Jack when Teal'c said it and the bounty hunter line was actually longer than in the show (if you look at GW guide for the Epsiode). It seems that TPTB are trying to drag out the return of SG-1 for as long as possible with the Daniel fainting scene but its most likely for the return of Carter in Beachead. I hope the Lucien Alliance are in future SG-1 storylines as it is true that we would see factions rising after the fall of the power system that was the Goa'uld.

The Ties That Bind recieves a S.G.C rating of 7 out of 9 Chevrons

Yes, I'll just say - it could have been worse. It was Stargate so I sat and watched it but it was not one of the best episodes. My main beef is the fact that Vala's character remains predictable. I thought that perhaps by this episode she would have been given some "depth" for want of a better word! She could be such a interesting character if she was allowed to expand more than the "thieving harlot" routine.

Hmm. I'm not sure what to say about this one. It certainly raised a few laughs from me (no one else, alas; I'm the only SG fan in the house), but it didn't 'grab' me the way that the previous eps have.

It was fun to have them going all over the place on a bit of a wild-goose-treasure-hunt-chase thingy (and the humour this generated was certainly rib-tickling), though I was as startled as anyone else by the sudden transformation of the wormhole - have they upgraded from Windows NT, then?

I agree that I feel a sense of things being 'on hold' for AT's return. Obviously Vala, as a 'civilian', cannot become a member of SG1, and (assuming Cam has made no progress on recruiting - in favour of realising his dream) the team will not reform until Sam is back at the SGC and Teal'c finds a reason to stop stalking the halls of Dakara. I suppose that it's inevitable that things are rather going to run on the spot a bit until the team's back together again and starts tripping the light fantastic - wormhole style.

My considered opinion (and entirely mine): It was an OK episode - some good laughs and set pieces - not a thorough stonker, but these are the ones which make you appreciate the good 'uns all the more.:)

I agree that it was a fun episode. What struck me afterwards, though, is the difference in the way that they "travel across the galaxy." In previous episodes, it was "go to Planet A, back to Earth, go to Planet B, back to Earth, go to Planet C, back to Earth," and one planet per episode [generally]. This was different, "go to Planet A, then to Planet B, then to Planet C." Like the universe has been opened up to us ["us" being Earth and the SGC]. It was a different feel than going to one planet, investigating, exploring, etc.. It was planet-hopping and it seemed to open up new vistas in the Stargate world. I hope it continues.

I'm not sure if that made sense, but it was a different "feel".

It sounds a bit like what I used to do as a student. Except in my case it was hopping around West Yorkshire with a Bus/Train pass...;)

Not that it broadened my horizons as much as planet hopping would, though.:(

Was quite entertaining, but Vala is really starting to grate on me now. I'd be forced to punch her out if I was DJ but hey, I spose it was a chance for TPTB to write for a different character. I'm kinda looking forward to Beachhead now when I really wasn't all that fussed before.

Did anyone notice the 'mirroring' that was going on between MS & BB? They both cross their arms at the same time, they both put their hands on hips thang going on, especially when they got into the long coats. Now (digs into memories of Social Science course) that means that they admire each other, want to be like each other, subconciously reinforcing their feelings by mirroring the other's stance... No doubt someone will correct me, but it was just something that jumped out at me there and nice to see.

I'm wishing the show would move out of it's comedy phase and return to some serious stuff again. But I'm still watching. 6/10 for me. :)

Yeah, I watched it again recently, too. It's the one I can't seem to erase from my Ti-Faux!

Not deep, heavy on the arc, or advancing the Stargate world too much. Just pure fun. And I like that.

I think I especially like when Vala realizes that the ship they returned has secret compartments with "booty" inside and Daniel and Mitchell each wordlessly grab one of her arms and escort her out of the room. :-)

I found myself getting bored rather quickly with this ep.

It reminded me too much of a short story I read about a trader who needs a piece of equipment, and has to go through a long chain of trades and favours before he gets what he wants.

Vala became really grating after a while, and MS seems to be in a hurry to get off set. He is talking so fast in some places I am having difficulty understanding him.

So true! Now that we know the characters better, I enjoy their interactions and wordplay much more. These early S9 eps are much more fun the second time (or third!) time around. I especially enjoyed the Daniel-Mitchell banter more, because the Daniel-Vala interactions kinda overpowered the other moments on first watching.

Tonight i think we finally confirmed that Daniel Jackson is indeed a homosexual.

Not that there is any thing wrong with that.

That is strange.

If he was homosexual, then why did he marry Sha're way back in

Well, it would explain for Daniel's shy behavior...

not sure if this has been mentioned (it would have taken ages to search through all the posts) but i noticed something i hadn't before when watching this the other day.
Early in the ep, Mitchell and Lam are getting out of the elevator when landry comes up to them. first of all Mitchell is doing up his shirt (probably coincidental cuz that would be a really cheap hint) but then landry gives mitchell the strangest look as he walks off. Watching tha scene again it seems like they are trying to suggest at something between mitchell and Lam.
And i am not at all ashipper so let me just say to any writers out there (i know, they don't read this ;) )...if you're thinking of doing this...
PLEASE DON'T!!!

Yeah, it was discussed. My interpretation is that Mitchell and Lam were talking in the elevator. When they saw Landry, Mitchell, who seems very aware of military protocol, felt he was "undressed" because his top button was unbuttoned - so he proceeded to button it. Landry was wondering why Mitchell and Lam were talking and somehow got it in his head that they would be a good match, so he looked back and forth between them, hoping 'something' was there. Lam's exasperated look told me that that wasn't the first time Daddy tried to influence his daughter's dating partners. Also, early rumors of season 9 said that Lam and Mitchell had a romantic past. Perhaps the writers wanted Beau to play the scene as if Landry felt there were sparks between Mitchell and Lam to lay the groundwork for some future interactions. However, it appears that they dropped that storyline.

Throughly enjoyed this episode very comical IMO, I loved when Vala interacted with Senator Fisher made me LMFO.

Its shocking that the Senator slashed the budget by 70% I guess they don't think the Ori are a threat yet, the Monastry was very funny with that smuggler another LMFO moment.

It was cool to meet/see the Lucian Alliance can't wait for future stories involving them, love Jup and Tenat they'll be very mad next time they see SG1 & Vala which will make great viewing.

Overall a rating of 9 & 3/4 my highest rating for an episode so far.

This was very interesting and enjoyable episode in my opinion. I like things like that "treasure hunt" system in this ep. They encountered many challenges and pretty big enemy while tryin' to track down that necklace, and that was interesting and very nice thing in this ep.

I also liked it 'cause it was so funny in many parts. Vala talking about senators "insufficient manhood" as General Landry indicated it, that "monk" dude and many other things.

And about that Vala/Daniel thing that some of you have mentioned during this "conversation"..... I think that Daniel indeed is a bit gay-ish. It might also be so that he has high principles, but still.. Vala lying in his bed half naked! I think he must be either gay or very nuts not to jump in bed immediately.

But in total, this episode was one of the best. I think only few older eps and "Origin" beats this.

9/10 is my assesment.

Ah yes, the Vala boinks a man for his family jewels episode. A real gem here. :P And as a bonus she manages to work in an insult to a senator. What a scream. Just not in a good way. :S

I remember when SG-1 used to be about more than boinking. Whether with Daniel or The Sicilian. ;)

I think there were perhaps two funny lines. I don't remember them though.

Or he has those pesky little things I like to call morals and values. CB/Vala is a beautiful woman indeed, but I never would have jumped in bed with her (Vala)...particularly after finding out that she'd sleep with a man just to steal from him.

I think the scene with the senator was about where I turned my TV off. A little bit of innuendo goes a long way with Vala, and every line she uttered was dripping with it and it got old (for me) in Avalon Part 1.

Not one of my favorites, but the best thing about this episode was that it didn't feature any Ori.

I liked this episode fun and it had vala in it. most of the episodes with vala were good. I miss SG1.

Vala: " Do you happen to have one of these credit cards?" :vala:

I can understand the need to try to re-invent the show after 8 years. From listening to the commentaries, they thought they might even be starting a new show called "Stargate Command". Introducing new characters, new themes and yes, new relationships would be important for such a venture.

Unlike many, I like Vala. I like how her character develops over the course of the seasons and the influence she has on Daniel and vice versa.

An average Season 9 episode.

Vala hitting on the committee head was funny.

Watching the Visual Effects for this I thought to myself, "This might be Mark Savela's first SG-1 episode," and I was right.

Tomorrow, a lot of people start dying, I think.

An episode where I didn't have to hear "Hallowed are the Ori"!!!

It was interesting for the fact that we got to see a little bit more of the galaxy and how people were adjusting after the fall of the Goa'uld. The fallout from lives changing suddenly from servitude and terror to having even that as a familiar constant removed must have been a bit of shock for many former occupied worlds. Interesting to note that some even felt it was a bad thing being free of the Goa'uld, their lives became worse!

Of course the Lucian Alliance start to muscle in and turn out to be no better by claiming things for themselves.

Vala's disingenuous fawning over men got tiresome very fast! Don't know who in the SGC would have got that outfit for Vala to wear to the meeting in Washington?! Seriously, I would have thought she would have been given the business suit for this occasion! It's making her 'sexy' at every turn that really went overboard for me.

I feel it took much away from her character development, we know she's 'sexy' and can make men lust after her, but this constant forcing of this 'sex object' theme just made me think she was totally shallow when we know from 'Prometheus Unbound' that she was a pretty intelligent and resourceful woman. She would have accessed the cargo ship's door control mechanisim in a second, but Daniel ignored that and it's ignoring her talents in this field that I guess made me frustrated with her character.

A pretty funny ep I reckon. All the different stuff the crew has to go through to get what they want. But in the end it was all for nothing haha.

The start of the Lucian Alliance as well. They will be a pain in Universe.

This episode reminds me of a M*A*S*H episode. The whole lets swap this device for this other device is done a lot of times in comedies. And that is how this episode should be approached. If you take the episode to be seriously then the episode falls on its feet because the episode is meant to be funny. The interaction of Vala's past makes it funny becuase of the crazy and humerous antics of her former partners. While the humor is what makes this episode awesome its also what dooms the episode. Because this is an humor episode its hard to take the Lucian Alliance seriously in this episode and the rest of S9 and S10. It took SGU to take them seriously. The episode also lacks a conclusion as the bracelets are still connecting them. I kind of disliked how that storyline was solved

I decided to give the new SG1 another episode...

1. First time round...well reread by '05 post, I gave up on the show after this ep.

2. This time round well...it wasn't bad but it was just meh. It felt like filler. I suppose that's an improvement.

3. Vala...still a bit nuts.

4. Mitchell. Not his finest hour.

Ah well..I'll stick with this for the rewatch still...the ep partially redeemed itself...

This one was kind of boring. Don't really like Vala that much. Seemed like a filler episode, dragging out - And it was all for nothing in the end. Do we even get to know what happens with the Lucians? I hope so ...

A very middle of the road episode for me. Kind of reminded me of two different DS9 episodes, one serious and one funny.

I think the only reason I didn't hate this episode is because I'm a fan of Ms Black. However, she couldn't push it into love levels. I think we been getting to much Daniel of late. I like the actor but don't need to see him so much.

I love CB and MS in this scene - great, absolutely great.
The ep was okay but I'll never forget that scene in Jackson's room.
