About the city shield (201 spoilers)

Okay, so now Atlantis has a functioning, fully-charged ZPM to use. As such, the city now has its shield back.

MacKay says in 201 that without the bombardment, the shield would last indefinitely. But he also says that with the bombardment, the shield will draw so much juice from the ZPM that it would be drained in a matter of days.

This really begs the question: what the hell was the shield supposed to protect the original Atlanteans from, rain?

remember atlantis is a space ship, to hold the shields for days against that kind of bombartment is pretty impressive, even more with only 1 zpm, the daedalists shield didnt even last for hours against 1/50 of the bombartment atlantis was going trough.

so if you ask me, it's very impressive.

But the three ZPMs were not intended solely for the shield, the entire city is powered by those three things. The power consumption for a completely artificial city with its own intergalactic engines, skyscrapers, vast internal transporter system, lighting and electricity, environmental controls, presumably some type of self-maintenance, mainframe computer system and its citywide network, etc etc etc must be absolutely mind-boggling. At least two of the three ZPMs powering the city would have to have been devoted solely to the upkeep of the city, never mind the shield.

I completely agree, 10 ships firing simultaneously, and the shield with only one ZPM could withstand that type of bombardment for days, staggering, that shield has to be the most advanced shield we have seen yet.

Don't forget the nuke too! Sure, it was a little bit above the city, but not that much.

Or alternatively it answers the question 'why did the Ancients punk out when they had this impenetrable shield?' Because it was using up a ZPM per week.

the kamakazi darts seemed like it would have done a great deal of damage. well getting baraged by the wraith hive ships at the end looks like it used years of power

yeah the shield was impressive (esp some of those bombardment shots). It will be interesting to see because eventually the wraith are going to figure out atlantis isnt gone. Also cant wait to see what tech will now be discovered now that atlantis has the zpm (as was rumored)
