The Sci Fi Channel brings back its excellent Friday night lineup tomorrow night with the new episodes of "Stargate SG-1'' (8 p.m.), "Stargate Atlantis'' (9 p.m.) and "Battlestar Galactica.''
With all due respect to the "Stargate'' franchise -- the original is now in its ninth season -- the crown jewel of the night is "Galactica,'' the revisionist remake of the 1970s TV hit. Dark, sexy, politically charged and full of allegories about contemporary social values, it is not only the top sci-fi series on TV but was one of last season's best new dramas -- period.
Tomorrow night's compelling season opener picks up with Commander Adama (an imposing Edward James Olmos) clinging to life after an assassination attempt and the rest of the main characters scattered across the galaxy in various dire circumstances. The installment gives most of the cast a chance to shine and kicks off the new cycle in style.
