    I think it might a bit early to ask this question, since we've only seen one season so far (at least in the US). But so far, what I've seen is pretty good. The producers started with a bang, so let's hope thy can keep that bang going on through future seasons of Atlantis.

      I love both SG-1, and Atlantis! I think that they can improve Atlantis with some more development of the characters. Otherwise, cheers! Great show; I'm hooked!

      P.S. I haven't been able to catch up with the "Ask Joe Mallozzi" and "Ask Martin Gero" threads, but have they mentioned anything about more character development?

          I think it is developing just fine. I thought I was not going to like it but I LOVE the show. I watch both airings every Friday. Even during the repeats.

              Well if you asked me, I think it's too early to be pointing fingers and stuff. Everything seems fine, the Atlantis base seems incredibly awesome. What would be interesting to see is more of Atlantis..

                I think the strength of the show lies in its ensemble cast including not just the opening credit characters, but all the secondary characters as well. As long as they keep that in mind I think they will be fine.

                  Amazing but I agree with all of you. I thought I was going to hate it, but I truly enjoy watching it and have gotten more and more sucked in, as the season has progressed. I also agree that the cast as an ensemble is what is making it work. The interplay between certain characters is being more developed (for instance McKay and Dr. Zelenka) because their chemistry together is so great.

                  Any who....I like the show, I hope it continues to flesh out all it's characters, including the Wraith.
                  On fighting:
                  Farrah: "A swordsman does not fear death, if he dies with honor."
                  Dr. Who: "Then he's an idiot."

                    Better acting.

                      I think what the show needs most right now is a worthwhile Wraith character. They've done good work giving the Genii cool characters but neglected the primary villians for some reason. It's odd.

                        The reason we don't have a worthwhile Wraith around is that they keep freaking killing 'em all!

                        ~~~~~~~~~~
                        Sheppard: Hey, look a Wraith! Kill it! Kill it!
                        Ford: Don't we need to catch it and put it in a cage first?
                        Sheppard: Oh yeah. Ford, go catch it.
                        Ford: Me? Why me?
                        Sheppard: Just go catch the stupid Wraith so I can kill it later.
                          haha! A reaccuring wraith would be cool.
                          I love the show! The only thing I want is for the characters to develop more. They have a great head start, but I know for me I'm not a huge Teyla fan but I do see the potential. I would like to see her character explored as a leader and not just the token good-looking alien. They started giving her a nice arc with the part-wraith storyline and I hope they focus in on stuff like that. I'd also love to hear backstory for Sheppard and Weir as I'm sure they are both very interesting and (obviously) had a lot to do with shaping their personalities.
                            I´m perfectly fine with Atlantis as it is now. I like that it concentrates more on the action and not so much on the privat life of the characters as SG 1 in season 7 (the last season we had here in germany) because I thought that was too much and there was almost no room for anything else.
                            (Yeah...I´m a girl but one that likes action better than soap opera )
                            But a recurring Wraith could be interesting.
                              I love atlantis, and to be perfectly honest, I like it more than SG1, although the ninth series may change that, depending on how good it is. Anyway, back to Atlantis, I think it's really good, and it's the kind of edge-of-your-seat stuff, and I'm loving the dynamic of the show. One thing I love is the fact that they're stuck in the pegasus galaxy and have to solve problems themselves. In SG-1, they could easily draft in a specialist to help them, but I like the fact that in Atlantis, they are faced with a multitude of problems, and have to deal with them with what they have. Just think of a reluctant fighter pilot Beckett, and you'll see why I like it. And Weir having to make decisions to the best of her ability, when she's used to peace talks, and not negotiating with aliens is interesting.
                              Also, the characters are likeable. Sheppard is very much the "hero" kind of guy, and quite likeable. McKay is just pure gold - He's the character you love to hate!
                              I like atlantis as it is, but I accept that it will change in season 2. After all, the effects of the siege will certainly mean that there will be some significant changes, and it is almost certain to become a military operation, rather than a civilian expedition, where things do go wrong.
