    SGA - Region 1 DVD News - "Rising" to be released as single episode DVD

    Thanks to Marla Duffy from the Yahoo Group Fans of Joe Flanigan for the heads up!

    From TV Shows On DVD:

    Stargate: Atlantis - Pilot Episode DVD Announced: Cover Art & Details!
    Posted by David Lambert - 3/28/2005

    When SG-1 discovers what it believes to be the remnants of the Lost City of the Ancients - the originators of the Stargates - Stargate Command launches an investigation. A new team of explorers, headed by civilian Dr. Elizabeth Weir, travels to the distant Pegasus Galaxy, where it discovers an advanced but deserted city on the ocean floor, a group of nomadic humans and a deadly enemy that feeds on humans as an energy source!

    Several weeks ago we relayed a report that Stargate: Atlantis - Rising, the 90-minute pilot of the spin-off series, would reach DVD by itself in June, ahead of a November release of The Complete 1st Season.

    MGM has now announced the first part of that equation, verifying a slightly-earlier-than- expected June 7th release of "Rising". Clocking in at a whopping $25.98 SRP for what appears to be a single-disc release, actual running time is 88 minutes and there are a few extras to be found:

    * Audio Commentary by Director Martin Wood and Actor Joe Flanigan
    * "Preview to Atlantis" Featurette
    * Sneak Peek: "Stargate Atlantis" Season 2
    * Stargate Alliance Videogame Trailer
    * Stargate Alliance Videogame Art

    Specs put this in 16x9 Widescreen (1.78:1) video format, with English: 5.1 Surround and Closed Captioning for the Hearing Impaired. Look for the regular cast of Stargate: Atlantis to be accompanied by SG-1 cast such as Richard Dean Anderson as "Jack O'Neill" and Michael Shanks as "Daniel Jackson". Also look for Robert Patrick from the later seasons of The X-Files.

    Thanks - very cool. And yay! - it has a commentary track. Martin Wood and Joe Flanigan. Eep - $25.98 is pretty pricey though.

    The R2 DVD with "Rising" on it didn't have commentary - did it? Yikes - poor UK'ers

      Ouch. Pricy and Region 1 too. As a region 2 viewer I feel decidedly miffed that region 1 has this dvd. The first Atlantis R2 dvd released includes the first four episodes but lacks some of the extras listed here - including audio commentaries.

      This appears to be solely a money making venture. The Stargate franchise is not known for exploiting the fans, the inclusion of audio commentaries for every episode of seasons 4-7 of SG-1 shows absolute dedication to the fans. But given the lack of audio commentaries on SG-1 or Atlantis R2 releases now it appears things have changed.

      I expect most people will buy the R1 boxset when it comes out, but will that include the audio commentary? If not will fans be willing to pay $25 for an audio commentary seeing as they would already have the eps in the boxset?

        A regular SG-1 DVD from S7 onwards gives us 4 episodes, 4 audio commentaries and one to three specials that sound much more interesting than just a trailer for the video game. All that for a quite hefty price - doesn't sound like the deal of the century to me!

          Cant say i reckon much to the cover, mind ya the R2 one either-volume two on region 2 is nice though.

          Heres a bigger shot:

            Seriously not impressed here. This just smacks of exploiting the R2 based fans for more money to be honest - and the worst of it is, they know they'll get it as well...
