Nothing has ever been used in the show, but the word is that TPTB intended to call them AR-1, -2, etc. (Atlantis Recon). But there aren't very many teams, two or three apparantly, so it's not that important to have a numerical designation.
As it stands right now, there's no need to label teams yet. Once Atlantis picks up steam, and more teams can be created, then i'm sure designations will be assigned then.
Please don't let Ford name them.. no telling what they will be called
Besides the "A" team of Shep, Telya, McKay, and Ford are the other teams pretty much set in "stone"
From what I was listening to Sheppard talk about in the Seige, Part 1, it sounded like stackhouse had a team before he got blown out of the sky. He talked about his team scouting an alpha site location. But as for the naming, I'd assume Atlantis-1 is sheppards team, and so on.
I like Gate Team too!!! Though if Sheppard has a say it might be Aqua One or something
Yep they refer to Stackhouse's team checking out some possible Alpha sites
Spoiler:
in Seige part 1 when the Wraith have tagged the original Alpha site. It was Markham who was killed in the Brotherhood and who was the pilot in 38 Minutes and the Defiant One when Ford was sent after Sheppard and McKay.
McKay, "I'm not sure I can fix this."
Grodin, "You can fix anything."
McKay, "Who told you that?"
Grodin, "You did. Several times."
