I just realised that the show never clarifies exactly what N I D stands for. Anyone have a theory?

apparently it doesn't actually stand for anything, and wasn't supposed to. but if they had to make something up, i'd say the most logical one would be the obvious "National Intellegence Department".

but lets try to come up with the most fun ones shall we?

Also I think they took NID because all the other decent acronyms were taken: CIA, FBI, BMW, AFK, BRB, WTF, LOL, SGC, TTFN etc etc

Yeah... I agree because PDL mentioned on a DVD commentary, can't remember which episode, that NID doesn't stand for anything... He suggested Nothing In Particular which, obviously, doesn't make any sense.
