The lost stargates

So when we look back in the Antarctica outpost we see earth from when the ancients from that other outpost as pangea the super continent over the time its taken for such geographical changes to occur could we assume the stargates accessible today are but a small fraction of what once existed. Like imagine before the asgards and everyone else the ancients could of had a much larger network but through natural and man made to speak disasters or even changes to the planet alot of these could of been lost or destroyed.

Yes, I'd imagine a great many gates don't work anymore. We just don't see them because that would make a really boring episode.

Perhaps that is why only some planets are gone to.. the others can't get connected with.
