In honesty, are we any different than the Tollians? We did the same to lesser advanced societies when it came to technology especially military technology. Look at The Other Side for example

We are, you're talking about military technology. We offered and even gave technology to many lesser civilizations, technologically speaking. The only thing that is different is the Tollans don't trade any technology, period, unless you're on par with them or more advanced (obviously). Scorched Earth, the episode is a prime example.

Good point. We are not that different because since we're in the position of power, we have the unintentional ability to be judgmental about societies like ours. AKA thinking that societies aren't ready for what we have.

Or in several cases, thinking OUR ways were the only right ways for things to be done.. Such as in the ep with those kids being nano-brained to learn and share with everyone else.

Consider this: If the advanced races had been helpful, generous and forthcoming, our beloved Stargate wouldn't have lasted for one season because there wouldn't have been anything left to fight against. There was no way to present them in another form.

We're the most advanced race on our planet and look how nice we are to all the lesser advanced races, or even the planet itself.

Besides, isn't the hard way the only way to truly learn? You can tell a kid he gets a shock from electric wire a thousand times. He won't believe you until he's touched it. Hell, try to learn kids anything about safety and they'll try first. We're advanced, sure but there's no reason to believe we're the most advanced. I mean, didn't it take until Hiroshima/Nagasaki until we realized just how horrible nukes are? Even then we needed a near-hit with global extinction until the message hit home.

An advanced race could give us all the spoilers, but we wouldn't learn. Wasn't it like Daniel said, knowledge is nothing without understanding?
