Wasn't there talk of a sequel to the 1994 movie?

A while back I read on the IMDB that there was talk of a possible sequel to the 1994 Stargate movie.

What's happened to that?

Currently in production or perhaps it a remake, not quite sure.

But Independent Day is essential what Stargate sequel was going to be. They rewrote the script when Stargate didn't perform that well at the box office.

Yes. They are currently talking about doing a trilogy based on the original Stargate movie ... which was their original intention before it got waylaid by the TV series. It isn't clear whether they are going to do a remake of the original movie, but it will be part of the trilogy. However, it will be strictly related to the original movie. There will be no SG1 or anything related to it. Given how busy Devlin and Emmerich are these days, however, it isn't likely we'll get to see the results of this trilogy within the next couple of years.
