Ancient style and design

The designs of the Stargate, DHD, etc... look very different from the rest of Ancient design. Why is that?
Stargates, DHDs, etc... are all smooth, with fine circular lines carved into it everywhere. Another element are chevrons/triangles/pyramids. The Goa'uld copied that design language. The smooth style with fine circular lines are on Jaffa armor, death gliders, etc...

The other Ancient designs we see in the show are rectangular, hexagonal. Even the alphabet letters are like that.

Why is that?


And related to that... who introduced the Pyramids? The Ancients or the Goa'uld? It has to be the Ancients, since they built the Stargates, and the Stargate design elements can all be found in Egyptian design.

And then again, why did the concept artists decide to make it look differently? They KNEW Stargates were created by Ancients. So why does Atlantis look so different?

Well the only stuff we see of Ancients early on Earth is the Stargate and Destiny which share a lot of common design elements. We get pretty much nothing else until Atlantis which was MILLIONS of years later, I'd say they changed their style during that time.

for a race supposedly 60 million years old, the ancients are about the least original, most stale race ever.

Look at the styles of earth in 2000 years history. hell, look at a modern computer versus a year-2000 computer. Notice the differences?


Simply put, these technologies were not made at the same time, or not by the same ancients.

The Ancients like said above me are many millions years old, culture, and asthetic design tastes change over time. Look at the change in decor and design between just 2-5 decades here in the united states.. now imagine over millions of years. You can give yourself a decent explanation with just that.

Also there have been many "Ancient" civilisations. Alterans, Lanteans and the Ori.. and those are just the ones we know about.

Atlantis and Destiny were built by two separate Ancient civilisations which explains why they look so different, and neither one looks like an Ori ship..
