Because the F-302 is a flawed piece of technology so requires the use of oxygen masked while the Death Gliders have a proper life support system.

Masks in planes are needed because 99 to 100% oxygen is provided through there because air gets thinner the higher up you get in the sky. The canopy is pressurized and you cannot provide the same air mxture like that as ground level. 99 to 100% oxygen is incredibly dangerous if you fill the cockpit up with it as NASA found out.

However, the F-302 should have air inside the cockpit anyway due to pressure on the body when there is no air. Blood boils, and so forth. So technically, they shouldn't need masks.

Masks also have radios inside of them.

I doubt it is the same thing like planes. Today's planes use bleed air from the 11th stage compressor in the engines which is then cooled down and then nitrogen is filtered out to provide 99% oxygen. Can't do that in space.

They could use the older form of LOX (liquid oxygen) converters. Which has an expansion ratio of 876 to 1 (one drop lets someone breath for 20 minutes) and boils at -276 F. The way it's designed is that it allows very slow boiling of the LOX. The Apollo missions and NASA missions use it. In fact Apollo 13 had an issue with it's LOX converters...
