Default Nitpicking: The Damage Report Thread

Ok....as with the voyager thread noting the massive amounts of Damage Voyager recieved...let this thread be for the entire Trek Universe.

The NX-01 got shot up pretty badly in the course of it's Mission, the Enterprise D got some damage plus the borg cut into it, Voyager got hit pretty bad, the Defiant got blown up once, the Station lost a Pylon during an episode plus always got it's shield emitters KO'd at times.....the old NCC-1701 had its' transporters messing up to the point Scotty had to work his magic to make em work most of the time....

But basically this is a thread for noting the Damage to each ship [also make note of casualties] so just a catch all thread for everytime a Console blows up and kills a redshirt....

    But:

    1. They actually had the ship stop in at drydock when they got beat up real bad.
    2. Stopped at Starbases more than once, and spent a few months in drydock after BOBW
    3. Inexplicable (this thread)
    4. It got blown up completely, and then replaced by a new ship entirely
    5. This is a valid point
    6. This did not cause cosmetic damage

In the Wrath of Kahn, NCC-1701-A got pretty beaten up...but not beaten up enough to go on a trek for Spock. Then, of course, Kirk blew up NCC-1701-A in ST: Search for Spock.

Well to be fair though, at the start of the movie they were limping back to spacedock. The ship was set to be decommissioned when they stole it. It never got repaired and bore its Khan scars right until the end.

Nitpick: it wasn't the Enterprise-A, either

You're correct...but the A still looks like the "letterless" Enterprise.

There was the refit Enterprise (Movies 1-4), then the Enterprise-A (Movies 4-6). Yes, they are externally identical, but that's just because it was the same filming model to represent two ships of the same class. Originally, the Enterprise-A was going to be the Excelsior. The people at ILM hated the Enterprise movie model, finding it very difficult to shoot. The ship's destruction and the introduction to the Excelsior was the answer to this. At the last minute, it was feared that people would reject the newer ship due to it's portrayal in ST3. Consequently, the Ent-A was identical to the original. Presumably, it was an existing ship renamed, which explains away it's swift decommissioning at the end of ST6. This is supported further by the idea of the Enterprise-B already underway as one of the first Excelsior-class ships after the Excelsior itself.

Well, 1-3 and 4-6, but yeah.

What always amused/perturbed me was how the bridge set completely changed for each movie. Yes I know they OOU explained it as interchangeable bridge modules, but it came across more as an inconsistency than anything else.

The bridge changing wasn't an issue for me. It was the moving turbolifts that got my attention.

Actually I think the bridges remained the same even in the E-A in her first scene in ST4. Though I haven't really looked into it.

    Movie Enterprise is a masterpiece.

There were only three Enterprise bridge sets across the first six movies. The first movie's bridge set represented the refit Enterprise through all three movies. Finally, it represented the Enterprise-A bridge in TVH before being claimed by TNG to represent various locations. This is why a new bridge set was introduced in The Final Frontier. The bridge set in The Undiscovered Country is the same set, only updated for a more militaristic look where as TFF was going for more of a pre-TNG look. Like I say, the only real screw up where the moving turbolift doors. Then again, this was back in the 80's and 90's. No one at the time thought anyone would care about something so trivial.

No there weren't only three. Every movie had a different bridge.

    TMP had a unique bridge
TWOK had a new bridge from TMP
TSFS altered the existing TWOK bridge (including the moving turbolifts)
TVH briefly showed a huge spacious new bridge
TFF had an entirely different set from the one seen at the end of TVH
TUC had, again, a brand new bridge set.

Same bridge set, only Spock's science station was moved from between the turbolifts to Kirk's right, next to the turbo lift.

Same bridge set, only with a little more battle damage to emphasize the Enterprise's crippled state.

Same bridge set, only with a white and chrome color scheme. Some of the consoles may have changed to reflect upgrades, but I can't remember.

    I'll give you this.

Again, it was the same bridge set, the set people just changed it up to suit the director's desire for a more militaristic approach.

Do I need to provide screen captures?
