    DHD New SG Series (?)

Has there been any news of a post-SGU series? What would you like to see in a new series? Personally, I would like to see the future of the Stargate Program (30-50 years in the future?) with a former character in command of the SGC, possibly Mitchell, Sheppard, Lorne, or if the Stargate were made public, Daniel. I also might enjoy seeing a larger, but still modest, fleet of Tau'ri ships. As for the major enemy, perhaps the return of Anubis, as he was never defeated, only kept at bay by Oma Desala, or maybe the renegade Asgard that were seen in season five of Stargate: Atlantis. Any opinions or news?

There is no news, because there is unlikely to be any new SG series for many years, if ever, despite the idea that a lot of us would like to see one.

Personally as for what I'd like to see on plots; I am sick of the Ancients being the underlying reason for every plot that exists in all the series. Anything significant that ever happened was caused by the Ancients.

I'd like something that focuses on a new galactic order and exploration. Starting with the actual revalation of the stargate to the public and dealing with the existential aftermath of it. Earth humans are not the only beings out there, much less the only humans. I think it's ripe for a political and human condition series.

Brad Wright's production team had no plans for a fourth series. They all planned to move on after SGU. SGU was cancelled, MGM let everyone go, and thus... it is over.

Perhaps it will be a situation similar to the Star Trek franchise? Enough fans will make enough noise, and in the years to come, we'll get a "Stargate: The Next Generation", so to speak.

If it comes back, it won't be down to fan noise.

but fans letting mgm know we're still interested does help, even if it's *just* letting them know we're still interested in this/their product. it's what brad wright asked of the fans.

Oh yes, no one is really a fan of the work he or she is doing *shakes head*.
Moffat is a huge Dr. Who-fan - well, he's one of the one who brought that show back on air.
Berman never was a fan of Star Trek TOS, huh? Wonder why he always mentioned the opposite.

The truth is, every producer of every "remake"-show is a former fan of the original show. And I'm pretty sure, WHEN Stargate will come back it's the fault of one or two of your none existing fans who are growing in some new ideas. The question is more, will this idea fit into the original intention of Stargate.

A top TV writer/producer happening to be a fan of a franchise and helping to bring it back is hardly the same as 'fan noise' is it? It's also the sort of one-in-a-thousand event that it would be silly to rely on.

Why do you assume the fans are completely irrelevant? When Star Trek TOS ended, the fans really wanted more, so they got Star Trek: The Motion Picture. After that, they kept making more and more movies. But that wasn't enough. They kept asking the producers for more and more, until they got a whole new series, inspiring a whole new generation of fans, and then they got DS9, and then Voyager. After there was a huge leap forward in special effects, they got Enterprise.

SGU is more comparable to the end of TOS than SG-1 is. We had 14 years of uniterupted Stargate, and now that it has stopped, fans will be in an uproar until we get our equivalent to Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

I sure hope we see another series someday. I just hope that new incarnation of Stargate honors what has come before it, and doesn't just ignore the past.

The best way to introduce a new series is via a feature film. SGU could have done it this way. There really was no need for people to know about the Ancients and the Tok'ra and the Aschen and the Wraith and Daniel Jackson and so on for the pilot of SGU. All you needed was for Eli to be told of an alien artifact that transports people to other worlds. That alone would have been enough to produce a good film.

After that, a series could break off with a large following, depending on the success of the feature film.

I personally think that this is the way for Stargate to come back. We could have a feature film that does not require prior knowledge of Stargate, yet doesn't ignore its history. It could be about the revelation of the stargate to the world. Here's a basic outline:

We start with an intro, one of those written intros with cool music in the background. Or a news broadcast. It could explain something like, "The US government in conjunction with several other governments announced a special conference where a secret multinational project will be revealed. And then the Apollo can descend above a crowd of journalists outside of the white house or something.

It could deal with the government recruiting new people to help deal with the aftermath and escorting a news crew through the stargate. That news crew could then have a classic stargate malfunction that transports them into some sort of epic adventure of life and death, maybe they discover a new enemy?

That conflict can be resolved and we get a nice setup for a series.

Times have changed. It took a monumental effort from fans of TOS in their droves sending mail, nowadays people can just log on and write an e-mail in a minute or two, and it could be from anywhere in the world too. It's so whimsical by comparison that it carries next to no weight. The competitive nature of the business is not what it was either, studios can't be taking those sorts of risks any more. They need hard data, and the sort of data it would take to prove another series was worthwhile so soon would be next to impossible to generate. There just aren't enough fans out there who care.

An accurate analysis. The sad fact is, a feature film or tv series will be considered these days if it is all but guaranteed to make money. Even today, if not more so, Star Trek The Next Generation was seen as a colossal risk, and one that could have crashed and burned. Thankfully it didn't and rewrote how tv Sci Fi is produced. Babylon 5 did something similar, taking advantage to the growth of the internet, and the 2004 version of Battlestar Galactica took that concept further with exclusive webisodes, and a dramatic change in characterisation and plot-lines, building on contemporary social and domestic issued that are still prevalent now. No matter how much noise fandom makes, we can't collectively guarantee MGM multi million dollar profits from high viewing levels and advertising revenue. - That is what makes modern films and television, especially Sci Fi, which is one of the most expensive genres to produce.

There have however, abeen a copious number or re-imaginings and sequels recently that have failed. Knight Rider, V, The Invaders, Two different attempts at The Time Tunnel, and of course Caprica. I have never seen it, but everything I have heard suggests that although good, it was too slow for the audience and haemorrhaged Galactica's winning ratings as a result. - Any new Stargate project cannot afford to make that mistake. - Some might argue it already happened with SGU, but I am neutral on that argument.
The fact that all those who worked on SG1/A/U have scattered in all directions on new projects to keep their careers afloat and the bills paid, suggests the format as we have know it IS over.

Besides, if there is a new series or film in the future, who is to say it might not be utterly dire?!

For me, I am happy to have 12 seasons of television I enjoyed and have the option of doing so in repeat viewing at my leisure.
Converting a human body into energy and sending it millions of light years through a wormhole. Bloody insanity!
Come on, how often do you get the chance to go to an alien planet?

I was a'ready on an alien planet!

If there ever is another series, it most likely won't be made by the original production team. More than likely, it will only use elements from SG1/A/U and only loosely tie into it.
