Default What would entail "Stargate: The Next Generation?

We have seen Star Trek: The Next Generation and a movie called Bonanza: The Next Generation.

What would Stargate: The next Generation ultimately look like 20 years into the present future in which SG1 etc. are all set? Many of us may be quite elderly when the event arrives, but presumably there will be a new series with that title, say, in the year 2025 or 2030.......

Elderly? How many people here are over 50? I would be 48 in twenty years. That's not elderly, but then again at my current age I have been called an old man a few times by a few teenie boppers.

How many people of the general public would remember Stargate by then? It's wouldn't be like Trek where there were four movies preceding it fairly recently before it.

I think it would be similar to reaction of a Battlestar Galactica remake IMO. Not the series itself but the reaction to it.

This only happened because of the success of Star Wars. Star Trek was return to TV as Phase 2, but the series was cancelled in favor of reworking the concept into The Motion Picture. This lead to three sequels, the third of which (The Voyage Home) lead to Trek's return to TV as The Next Generation. After 18 years of having been off the air, changing technology and scientific understanding, and the desire to produce more movies around Kirk's crew lead to TNG being set further into the future by about eighty years. I don't see this happening a second time with Stargate as Trek's TNG was due to unique circumstances.

Honestly, I don't see it returning. The X Files was far more popular, lasted for about as long as SG-1, had two lesser known spin-offs (Millennium & The Lone Gunmen), and was made into two movies (just like SG-1). If anything, I'd compare SG to X-Files. Despite the popularity of The X Files, at best, we can expect one more movie. Instead of revisiting the franchise, FOX has been looking for similar, dark, and edgy shows. Terminator and Fringe come to mind. In regards to Stargate, I think the closest we will see to a revival is Syfy looking for a similar premise, but an original series.

Forget about what the fans want. No one cares. The big question is, does MGM think that Stargate is still profitable enough to produce another series down the road? If the answer is no, kiss the gate goodbye.

I'll be closing in on 68 in 20 years, and I don't consider that "quite elderly".

As for a Stargate revival at that point? Who knows...?

What should I say? I usually find people over 30 to be boring. ;-)
I guess by then, the great-grandsons of Ben Cartwright will be the father figures on the Ponderosa! ;-)

Well I would be older in 20 years obviously, I would not be old. Well I think it really varies from person to person, I do not believe that older really starts until about 62 Earths years of age in general. I.E, social security where I come from and the fact that you are about 20 years past the halfway point of your average lifespan. Social security will be gone by the time I am 62. Along with accessible oil supplies. Figures..... Old old I would put at 70+. However, I know some 80 years old's who are still quite active, so perhaps we should redefine what old means exactly.

Anyways though I would love to see Stargate continuation.

I got a 90 year old Grandmother and a 94 year old Grandfather who can do circles around some people 20 years younger than them. Grandma walks 2 to 3 miles a day in a semi-fast walk. Grandpa is slowing down though but it took him this long to do that!

Anyway Snowman is right. It took circumstances at the right time to do what happened to Star Trek as opposed to being a reboot later on. TNG was the one that allowed for more continuations of the Trek timeline.

I doubt we could be so lucky with Stargate.
