    Default Atlantis, shields, power, etc.

So I'm mulling over the idea of Atlantis staying in the Milky Way and considering the idea of the city relocating to a planet like P4X-351 and tying into the planet core for power in the same manner as with the Mobile Drilling Platform on Lantea.

This seems like a feasible solution for Earth's dilemma with dialing Destiny. Granted planets like P4X-351 are extremely rare, if they were able to find one it seems like it'd be a good solution. They'd have a great outpost to form a supply line to Destiny with and since McKay has come up with a means to minimize the risks involved with using the core as a power source there wouldn't be much risk with using Atlantis for this purpose. Worst case scenario they move the city to a safe distance if the circumstances turn grim, right?

One thing I was thinking about, if they're using a power source as abundant as a Naquadria core, do you think theoretically they could power the shield to encompass the planet in the event of an attack to prevent the core from destabilizing? In the episode "Echoes" its shown that the Ancients were apparently able to partially shield Lantea from the Coronal Mass Ejection just with their ZPM's. It seems possible they could shield a whole planet if they were using a Naquadria core.

    What do you think?

As in who in-universe named the base or which writer chose Icarus? The planet was never named except in a deleted scene from Air, Part 1 when Rush used the stones to report back to O'Neill.

In which episode did this happen ?
The Al'kesh is not a warship - Info on Naqahdah & Naqahdria - Firepower of Goa'uld staff weapons - Everything about Hiveships and the Wraith - An idea about what powers Destiny...

What is wrong with the idea of a realistic and intelligent Stargate show?

    Spoiler:
With flawed main characters who are not always heroes,
but actually normal people who make mistakes and don't always have favourable odds.
With people who have to deal with powers which don't necessarily aim for the good of all?
What is wrong with Earth forced to rely on more powerful allies,
instead of seizing all the best techno-trinkets and outsmarting those who engineered them,
instead of using them as leverage for behaving like masters of the universe
who don't need to respond to anyone for their acts?

Really, what was wrong with the formula during the franchise's first years?

In the beginning of the SGU episode Seizure, Woolsey is attempting to negotiate an agreement with Ovirda from Langara to attempt a dial to Destiny, saying a solution to the issue of the Naquadriah core's destabilization has been found and brings McKay in to explain. It's been a long time since I've seen the episode so I can't remember if it was explicitly stated that McKay remedied the problem or if it's only implicitly suggested that he did... either way it seems likely that he (and probably others) figured out how to fix that problem.

Well, in the ep itself, they trial dial out, but get forced to stop before iirc the 5th cheveron locks in. And Mccay did say to Telford, it would have worked without blowing stuff up.

Yeah, McKay's success rate is pretty high. Even though he has an inflated ego it isn't entirely unwarranted, I would wager that his solution would have worked.
