    Red Dwarf X

Just found out there is to be a new season of Red Dwarf... the 4 main actors returning to their roles...

After "Back to Earth" the other year, can't say I'm excited... I really think they need to do a reboot... which is sad to say, but I think would revitalise the show in ways that the old actors just can't...

(Been watching the show since 1990; I'm not a newbie who lacks attachment... just a realist.)

Back To Earth wasn't really bad because of the Actors, imho, they could still pull it off. I just don't think the plotting and writing was as good as it used to be. Though that could be because I spent most of the time wondering about the continuity.

I don't think there's much doubt that Red Dwarf was best when it was written by Rob Grant and Doug Naylor... When the team ended, the writing just never seemed as good...

I'm not sure I could even say Back to Earth had many good moments... It just felt very awkward and cumbersome. Bit similar to Star Trek: Generations... Shatner was great in his day... but his day had passed... (He's great in other roles now in his older years, but as an older Kirk... just no...)

A reboot is never a choice I usually opt for, but in this case, for this show, I really think it could work. Unfortunately they've opted to keep the original cast... which I recall hearing (Doug?) say that Dwarf wont happen without the original guys.

A new cast would kill it.. It would be like the US remake all over again

Not if they were British... and written for British audience. Unlike the US pilot which was lowest common denominator sci-fi...
