    Default "Sharpe" series

I had never heard of this series until recently when I was reading about Sean Bean. I'm somewhat intrigued by this series. I have a couple questions:

Is this a television series or is it just a series of TV movies? Cause from how and when they are produced, they just seem like a series of TV movies.

Is there a lot of action in these, or are they more like dramas?

Does Sean Bean kick butt as usual?

Do you (people who have watched them) recommend them?

It isn't a series like you'd expect, more a series of TV movies and a Sean Bean classic!

It's more like a series of TV movies. Each ep has a running time of 100 minutes.

It has a lot of action, but some drama as well. For me it's a good mixture between them.

Yes, Sean Bean kicks a lot of butt, and he doesn't die in the end.

If you like Sean Bean and things with historical background I would recommend it.

Yeah it's a sort of series of tv movies, there are 16 of them, each are as said 100 minutes plus and have high production values. They are pretty damn good, though if your French you, might not enjoy them.

Here's a pretty cool fan trailer for the first film, Sharpe's rifles.

    I'd highly recommend them.

If you are a fan of Sean Bean these are a must!

I think my favorite may be Sharpe's Sword. I'd say they are drama and action combined. There may be 1 or 2 I still have to see.

Lol, I was wondering if perhaps all the times he cheats death is why he dies so often in other movies. It is the movie gods of Death keeping balance

I might buy the first five episodes on Amazon. There's a set going for 40 bucks. But there's another set going for 25-ish but only 3 episodes. So idk. We'll see.

Out of curiosity, is there any continuity between the stories or all they all stand alone episodes?

There's continuity, although certain recurring characters disappear without any explanation.

I highly recommend them. They are what got me really interested in the Napoleonic Wars.

They're great. Sean Bean at his best, and for once playing a good guy who doesn't die!

His story is rather interesting, he's a really good soldier who's risen through the ranks and gets promoted to officer, where the working class guy is less than well received by some of his upper class colleagues and superiors.

They're based on a series of novels, which are generally very well researched. They were filmed for mainstream UK market when Sean was at his early peak. In some of the early ones (minimum) they used real troops as the soldier extras, filmed in Eastern Europe. They also had some decent historical advisers on set (at least one who is one of the extras). Also keep an ear out for John Tams (sharp-shooting poacher Hagman) who is a "real" folk-singer whose character occasionally drops into song round the campfire. Er, yes, I've been a fan since the 90s.

Quizzard beat me to it. And mentioned that the series is based on a series of novels
    written by Bernard Cornwell.

I am a big fan of the series.

How could I forget Hagman and his singing!!!! I really like the one that plays over the end credits all the time.

I might consider getting a few novels as well. I'm gonna try to get more pleasure reading in during this summer.

Good question - I've had it since the 90s!
It's called "Over the Hills and Far Away".
For now, I've found it at Amazon (UK) and also as an import at Amazon (US).
