Stargate SG-1 Telescope

Hey Guys, let me first start by admitting that I am not a Stargate fan at all. Not that I don't like the show, I've honestly never sat down and watched it. However, I do often buy unique items from estate sales...which is why I am here... I recently purchased a Celestron Firstscope 70AZ telescope and noticed that it has "Stargate SG-1" and the "MGM" logo stamped on the side of it.

I can find NOTHING about this "Stargate SG-1" telescope online, other than this one ebay listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ht_13971wt_912

I sent the ebay lister an e-mail asking if he had any more info on this, and this was the response I got:

Hi,

MGM had only about 25 of this Celestron model telescope specially outfitted with the Stargate/MGM logos, and issued them to a few select people as the official Stargate SG-1 Celestron telescope. I assume all 25 were given to people who closely worked with the show and it's success. They weren't available to the public, and so I doubt you will ever find any information online. There is a letter included that is from MGM. I hope that helps.

Can any one here confirm if this is true? Did MGM really have these made and give them to people working on/with the show? If any of you guys have ANY information on this telescope, I would GREATLY appreciate it!

Oh Heavens! Borrow a couple of DVDs at the very least!! (Shakes head in mock despair)

The only person I know of in here who might be able to help you is David Read, one of the senior mods and a former employee of Propwerks. As a result David was directly involved in the auctions of the official Stargate sets, props and costume material. Even if he does not know the answer himself, he may know someone who does.

The only other options is to try contacting MSM's marketing dept, or Celestron who appear to be the manufacturers of the telescope. They should have something on their records, assuming they are still in business. I have noticed, the letter of authenticity doesn't appear to have a collectors number, or registration number on it?

May not be the kind of info you're looking for, but Jack had a telescope on a platform on the roof of his house in Children of the Gods. There was also a telescope used in Season 6, Forsaken, when the team was on another planet to observe some astronomical phenomenon. That was probably the kind of telescope you are referring to.
