    Default Deep Space Carriers

I am just making an observation here, but after years of comparison I believe the most accurate classification of the Daedalus-Class Deep Space Carriers is not as a Battlecruiser, but as a cross between a modern Guided Missile Cruiser and WW-2 era Escort Carrier. First the ship has firepower similar to that of a Ticonderoga-Class guided missile cruiser or CG. Her Airwing is roughly the size of that of a Bogue-class Escort Carrier or CVE of World War 2. Those ships carried between 15 and 24 aircraft typically Grumman F4F Wildcats (12) and TBF Grumman Avengers (9). The Daedalus-Class carries only 16 F-302 fighters where as a Nimitz-Class Aircraft Carriers or CVNs carry between 85-90 fixed wing aircraft and helicopters these incould Attack Fighters, Early Warning and Electronic Warfare Craft, Cargo Planes, ASW Helicopters and SAR Helicopters.

For Stargate a ship that would equal Battlstar Galatica's Battlestars would cross a Nimitz-class CVN with an Iowa-Class Battleship or BB as rebuilt in the 1980s to include the ability to launch anti-ship missiles like the Harpoon and Tomahawk-Class Cruise Missiles. This type of ship would have a crew in the low thousands including the Air Wing. It should have a good mix of heavy guns, medium guns, light guns and missiles.

Instead of comparison to a WWII escort carrier, I can see the new America class being a closer fit.

    Ummm
what does this have to do with the "Destiny" or the "Hammond"
I grant you that comparative military strategy is interesting, but why discuss on the SGU tech thread??

it has everything to do with the Hammond, the Hammond is a Daedalus class cruiser.

The Hammond is yes, but it appeared how many times in SGU?
I'm not ragging on the OP's idea's at all, but shouldn't this be more "general gate" rather than SGU?

it is a real naval designation

They were similar in size and cost to a battleship, but while they typically used the same large-calibre main armament as a battleship, battlecruisers sacrificed armour protection in exchange for speed.
the battlecruiser was principally used to provide a fast and hard-hitting addition to a battleship fleet.
The Washington Naval Treaty, which limited capital ship construction from 1922 onwards, treated battleships and battlecruisers identically, and the new generation of battlecruisers planned was scrapped under the terms of the treaty.

By the end of the war, there were very few differences between the design of a battlecruiser and a fast battleship.
so it was used, but it got phased out because battlecruisers and battleships became more and more convergent.

the BC-304 can also be referred to as a DSC-304, but the Battlecruiser variant is shorter, sounds better etc. in a way, the 304 IS a battlecruiser.
