Personally I feel that it's a miracle the Ancients lasted as long as they did.
A hundred years of war is longer than any war I'm aware of in Human history
nah, we've had the 80-year war and the 100-year war.

Yes the Ancients had different kinds of technologies, but the Wraith apparently had a moving, expanding industry that could be expanded on any world and at will by the Wraith.
That's a pretty hard thing to fight.
well it's a matter of how hard a blow really hits.

every blow on the Ancient industrial machine would've been a heavy one. Since the wraith make their stuff from the most abundant of materials, every blow to them would be marginal: every world they loose is a world they can easily replace. every ship they loose is even a potential source for new material. they require no complex systems to build their stuff, manage their stuff, etc.

the wraith are flexible. the Ancients are not.

my personal thought is this: the Wraith managed to destroy the Ancient drone and ZPM factories, leading to a massive shortage of them. it led to a vast decrease of effectiveness for the Ancients, untill they more and more began to ran out of drones.

since sheppard says "They could win almost every battle but not the war", it suggests that when the wraith struck a blow, it was one the Ancients could not recover from.

as to the wraith: it seems that the Wraith never really maintained their fleet. in Allies, there's a remark to that. what we see now, is a fleet of ships that's a ghost of it's former self. besides, Hives aren't even fit as warships.

I'd forgotten about france vs england.
Guess I could keep my phrase as us not having a technological war that's lasted that long.

    Gotta agree totally.

This would seem likely, considering we've never seen any factories it means one of two things, either the Ancients had some devices that we don't recognise as being capable of making such devices or they were destroyed and never rebuilt.

since sheppard says "They could win almost every battle but not the war", it suggests that when the wraith struck a blow, it was one the Ancients could not recover from.
It does sound like gradually the Ancients lost more a more, more from the entire story we've been told than that one statement of Sheppard's.

Yeah, tbh they've lost too much throughout the last five seasons to be seen as an uber enemy, yeah they could defeat Earth, but so could the Goauld if they'd actually sent enough ships to fight the 304s if the System Lords had united.
The fact that it's not believable to some that the Wraith could fight the Ancients now is enough to argue they just aren't the power they once were.
If the Ancients had fought this current Wraith I bet they'd have won.

believe the so-called "100 Years War" was actually several hundred years lol.

true. wars last shorter and shorter the more advanced we get.

no. you´re being too modest. based upon the performance in No Mans Land, a single Aurora could defeat the entire wraith fleet.

this is IMO only proof that the Ancients likely lost their drone manufacturing capability.

no. it did take a hundred years. in reality however, it was a series of wars, but the `peace` areas weren´t really peaceful.

they did face enormous food shortages, internal wars etc in SGA. remember how much it takes to kill a recently-fed wraith? the ENTIRE Wraith race would've been like that during the Ancient wars.
