Did Star Trek TNG get anyone into gambling?

I'm doing a TNG re-watch, and am currently half way through season 5. I've noticed there's a heck of alot of poker going on... Has anyone directly been infuenced by watching all of the gambling? Can anyone say, after watching TNG, they played poker, and have gambled away there shuttle craft?

The gambled? I seem to remember them only playing with poker chips. How is that gambling?

How is it gambling if nothing of worth is gambled? I looked the word up in the dictionary. Apparently, gambling does not necessitate financial nor property risk. Interesting.

I have watched a few episodes of syndication and there was barely any gambling involved; even if I watched the entire series in a marathon, I would have to say no.

i think my favorite thing is that their futuristic poker chips were just cheap plastic hoyle ones you buy in th grocery store, just painted.

It made me want to get into poker at a fairly young age. I can play a pretty mean hand most of the time.....mostly though i just like the sound the chips make when you throw them in the pot.
