    Default Seasons 1-8 or 9&10?

Overall, what did you end up enjoying more? The O'Neill/Goa'uld years (Seasons 1-8) or the Mitchell/Ori years (Seasons 9&10)? I'm just curious of anyone liked the final two seasons more than the earlier. For me, the best season was #8. I love how everything came to this big, final showdown. Have you ever wanted to see a show keep going past the series finale? That's how I think of Season 9 onward.

I tend to divide S1-8 into S1-5 and S6-S8 because of the change in storytelling. S6-S8 was by far the worst with RDA's reduced appearences. I find the quality declined with his less time and working around his schedule. S1-S5 was the best.

If we're going to break it down further, I break the show down like this...

    Seasons 1-7 (classic SG-1)
    Season 8 (climactic SG-1)
    Seasons 9-10 (Ori saga)

Season 8 fixed the RDA scheduling problem, for me at least. Did you not like the stories being told in Seasons 6-8? There were some amazing episodes those seasons, no?

No. They were dull as they tried to focus on only 1 or 2 characters in an effort to accomodate RDA. Its why I quite like S9 and S10. At least we had a team

It wasn't all that noticeable to me in Season 6. I'll agree that RDA/O'Neill was noticeable in the background in Season 7 with a larger focus on the Sam/Daniel/Teal'c trio. Season 8 fixed the problem by promoting O'Neill to General and SGC commander. Problem solved, no? It also allowed the Sam/Daniel/Teal'c trio to be the full SG-1 team without us asking where O'Neill went off to.

What? I don't know what you're trying to say. That's how you like to group the show? Those are your favorite seasons? The discussion is on whether you like the O'Neill/Goa'uld seasons more or prefer the Mitchell/Ori seasons more, and why. You didn't really cover this.

O'Neill years, hands down. I didn't really like the Daniel/Aeryn and Crichton show. Oops, I mean Daniel/Vala and Mitchell show, of course...

I guess it's an indicator of my overall enjoyment of the seasons when I consider that I purchased seasons 1-8 and didn't bother with 9&10.

No. The promoting of Jack to general had its own problems like SG1 never going off world.

I loved all the seasons, especially Season 4 though. Hands down, one of the best seasons of the entire francise. Nowdays I seem to re-watch Season 9 and 10 more though.

Favorite Shows ( for now ) : Battlestar Galactica ( re-imagined ), LOST, Stargate SG1, SGA, SGU, Alias, 24, Game of Thrones, All Joss Whedon Shows ( Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse ), Fringe, Boardwalk Empire, Homeland

For me, SG1's glory-days ended after season 8. I don't hate season 9/10 but I don't feel the plot particuarly brought anything interesting to the franchise.

    ** series spoiler below **

I thought the religious-zealot enemy arc had already been done quite enough with the Goa'uld, who wanted to both live inside humans and enslave humans. That's why I quite enjoyed the initial replicator arc -- a new and exciting enemy who doesn't want to enslave humanity, merely use all of the galaxy's resources for its own propagation. And naturally, this is one of the reasons I enjoyed Atlantis more than 9/10 of SG1.

I agree that there was a feeling of "we MUST keep going!" during 9/10, and at times it felt as if the dead and buried horse was being flogged beyond all recognition. In many ways, SG1 9/10 felt like an entirely new spin-off, with the introduction of new characters, a new enemy, and new ways of working. I often found the whole thing tedious at times.

Seasons 1-8 for me. I found the Ori to be boring, and hated the inclusion of Vala and Mitchell in S9 - 10.

I've said it many a time before...

In terms of 'Stargate', I really do enjoy S9-AoT, I find the seasons and movie to be highly enjoyable. There was a noticable improvement in filming technique, everything became a lot sharper and well executed - it was a welcome change following a couple of years of dropping quality (imo). I had found S7 and 8 (bar Lost City and Full Alert) to be exceptionally dull. There was a nice move back towards a heavy WIDER military presence, the command structure was back, and the involvement of the IOA and other nations was refreshing.

    However.

As far as SG1 SPECIFICALLY goes - hell no. 9&10 was incredibly poor SG1 with many contrivances that simply shouldn't have happened. In a lot of ways, the awesomeness of SG1 (ie present day Earth humans fighting aliens with modern day technology) was gone, things had moved on too much. I quite often watch S9-AoT almost seperatly from base SG1.

In a lot of respects, I see SGU as the proper continuation of classic SG1. Frankly.

Where as SGA and SG1 9-AoT worked quite well together imo.
