He could tell the crew not to be so mean to Rush. If you remember how they treated him at the beginnig - when they came aboard Destiny - Young could really do more about that.

And about his relationship with TJ: We all know he still has feelings for her - we saw that in 2x18 "Epilogue" - but doesn't show them that much. That's such a pity. They would be such a sweet couple.
