after 2000 years all the blood lines would have mixed many many times over

you wouldn't need a family tree after 200 years pretty much every body on novus would be the direct descendent of every destiny crew member

They are separated by roughly 40 generations. That would be like being concerned that you and your partner had a common ancestor during the Roman empire.

That's exactly my thoughts. I mean if you had a relationship with someone now, would you trace both family trees back all that way to see if your ancestor's ever got together? After all that time it wouldn't matter one way or the other.

The way we stay inside our own cultures when it comes to romantic relationships it almost impossible to not have a common ancestor that far back

your more generationally closely related to your cousin then your grate grand child, we would still probably consider the later incest well not the former

2000 thousand years passed between when the alternate crew of Destiny arrived on Novus, and when the current timeline crew arrived. No, it wouldn't be incest as two millennia of genetic commingling have passed.

There are other reasons beside genetics to consider two people too closely related to marry. One example is adoption. There may be no genetic relationship, but there is a family relationship. These people are genetically the great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great grandparents (roughly).

But that's only genetically. They don't have the ties of family with them. And they aren't actually their x-times grandparents, but x-times great aunts and uncles. Think of it as each person on Destiny as having an identical twin.

An interesting note is that in Lord of the Rings, Arwen and Aragorn are first cousins, just many, many times removed.

most people still consider relationships between blood relatives incest even if they where separated at birth and have no relationship

you know I remember having this same concern when I read Riverworld

You bring up a good point with adoption, close relationships based on parental role trust should not be broken. That might be why it would seem strange for the Destiny crew to mingle with the Novans, they feel like there is a family ties that is close for Destiny's crew.

No. The relationship is so distant they are barely related. Everyone on Earth is probably as closely related as the Novan descendants of the Destiny Crew.
