RIP Sep 2010 to beloved gateworld.net member and forum contributor Weedle, very skilled soldier with military special operations, a wonderful human being, and a friend to so many on gateworld. May we keep his memory close.
Lt. Col.,
What don't you understand? I found the violence offered in the first two Stargate incarnations to be somewhat cartoon like. Feel free to disagree.

All plot and no character makes for a dull story... All plot and no character makes for a dull story... All plot and no character makes for a dull story... All plot and no character makes for a dull story...

SGU was alright in my opinion, but I wasn't watching it with kids so I can't really be certain. I didn't think it was over the top like say Game of Thrones, Spartacus. They were just trying something different with the Franchise which is actually okay IMO.

Favorite quote:
McKay: You shot me!
Sheppard: Yes, Rodney, I shot you, and I said I was sorry.
Ronon: You shot me, too.
Sheppard: I’m sorry for shooting everyone!
Over the top?
I was following that until Mad Men got thrown into it. Game of Thrones and Spartacus are very graphic, and while I disagree that GoT is "over the top" (most of the time, anyway) (haven't watched Spartacus to be able to comment), I could sort of see the point being made.
Then Mad Men was mentioned, seemingly in the same category, and I have no idea what the point is anymore.

Hello!
I don't think that the violence in Stargate SG1 or Stargate Atlantis was cartoon like. I think that the better way to look at it was that it was action oriented like an blockbuster action movie. I know that there were times in both series that there were some really dark moments. The Wraith were very bad in the fact that they drained the life energy out of their victims. The Goa'uld were really nasty when they took a host. I believe that the first two Stargate series were meant to stay close to the movie Stargate.
I believe that Stargate Universe was able to have much darker and gritter violence because the crew was completely cut off from civilization for the most part. It makes for a setting that can be much more brutal. I think that Stargate Universe was trying to go for a realistic war movie level of violence. It made sense for the series. I mean the crew of the Destiny was facing things that no other group in Stargate command had gone through.
I believe that the level of violence worked well for all the series. I think that Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis could have been a bit darker at times. However I also think that Stargate Universe could have been lighter at times. I think that Stargate Universe was going to get a bit lighter after the second year because the crew of Destiny was getting more on the same page. I have a feeling that they would be facing more external threats than internal threats.
Lt. Col.,
So, cartoons cannot be violent?

Hello!
I can say that I have indeed seen some really violent animation. I have seen some American animation that is violent. However I have seen Japanese anime that I can say could make all of the violence in Stargate Universe look tame by comparison.
