    Lightbulb Staff-Zat

why did the goauld never make a staff-zat with just the kill setting. i mean, traditional staff is more destructive but zat beams conduct through metal, (see, episode Memento Mori, near the end with the battle with the trust), and canalso disable technology without damaging it too badly. also zat beams are very quiet compared to a staff blast. in my opinion one of these would have been VERY useful in stargate.

Could mean they stole the technology (like many of their other things) and couldn't do anything but replicate it?

I don't think so. My guess is that the full destructive force of the staff weapon makes it more versatile in it's configuration and the anything the Zat can do that the staff weapon can't is just fine for the small side-arm.

To compare your idea to a real world gun, it would be like making a long and heavy rifle, but it shoots low powered pistol bullets. Not very practical.

it's far more likely that the Goauld didn't want their troops to destroy their own tech by accident.

true, however i still think that the idea of a conductive weapon blast is useful. example, enemy jaffa standing side by side, armor occasionally brushing the others armor. one staff-zat shot kills all of them. however i see the point of the side arm zat, in that it is portable and clicks into a sling on a jaffas arm. i do agree that it is possible they could accidentally kill their own men and technology by accident, as you proposed, but i dont think the killing each other part is an issue because if they were that stupid the goauld wouldnt want them anyways. who wants a soldier who would accidentally kill himself?

and also i just want to point out even though of their limited range a zat is much more accurate than a staff because its beams are highly linear and staff blasts seem to arc over a distance

I dunno, that would have been a good idea. Rather than carrying around a not so discreet staff weapon. But then again, the Goa'uld aren't all for stealth - their boots and armour are incredibly loud and non-camoflage and the helmets are a big give away of what enemy is coming.

Like someone said above, maybe they could only replicate the technology as they stole it from other races (The Ancients)

Maybe they're all about size? Lol

But I think they do like to show off a bit, and they feel that they are superior and great warriors, they might just think, why not wear menacing and fear-bringing stuff rather than think about comfort, stealth or practicality?

the jaffa also have no need for stealth, (rethinking my last comment), because how many superior races do they fight aside from humans? i mean all the races the jaffa fight, usually to keep them in line, are far inferior and the fear of the menacing helmets are very intimidating, i suppose.**especially Ra's jaffas helmets. i mean that think about it. the helmet closing could take your hand off and it has a menacing hawks beak

Quetesh's idea, I think, not mine. Anyway - it IS practical if you want a long range and/or accurate stun shot, not blow-head-off shot.

I got the impression that half the time the Jaffa were fighting each other, insofar as Jaffa from another System Lord. But yes, the other random people would be fairly low tech.

thank you i have lots of ideas. most arent pertinent to stargate so a lot of gateworlders dont see them.
