Default sga unused zpm in atlantis

if you will all remember stargate sg1 lost city parts 1 and 2, we learn that almost all ancient technology is modular and with a few exceptions conforms to the exact same design (ie, atlantis control chair, taonas, and atlantus outpost control chair are extremely similar, if not to exacting specifications). therefore, if there was a zpm powering the control chairs at the taonas and atlantus outposts, then why would there not be one in the atlantis city itself? i mean, maybe it received main power from the cities main zpm deck, but seeing as all of the technology seems as if it can be removed and replaced easily, why should there not be one under the atlantis control hair too? thoughts, anyone?

The chair is tied directly into the city's power grid so it is highly unlikely for a zpm to be hidden in the chair, although one probably could be used in the chair itself, as there have been naquadah generators plugged directly into the chair.

If it was the case, then it would have just worked during the Siege, and wouldn't have required the Mach II generator to be connected properly (they had difficulties).

I think it was said in the second part of Rising (or at least an early episode) that ZPMs would appear on the city scanners and that none were present.

wish they actually found a ZPM making lab on atlantis. or would that be considered "Jumping the shark?"

The ZPMs were near but not "in" the chairs at the other locations, which in context is important. On Atlantis they had the ZPMs in a purpose built room/facility, since proximity wasn't a requirement. The Atlantis ZPMs were all-but drained due to the fight against the Wraith.

It's possibly the ancient zpms were made by the ausurans. It would explain why they seemed to "run out" by the end of the wraith war.

thanks for clarifying, and i think all this is valid, but still it stands to reason there would be an emergency zpm in the chair 'alter' (assuming its modular). However, its always possible they never detected it because the ancients simply took it with them, or that scientist guy with the hidden lab, (the three lights that release the tones and make it possible to walk through the force field,) and he just used it in the zpm power deck to support the shield. however, i think logically there should have been a zpm building station, or at least a zpm recharger (the ancients probably could have done it). and there probably should have been, (unrelated topic,) a warship there or something so that the returning ancients in the future could have started searching for materials to rebuild their colonies

Not necessarily jumping the shark, but making a crucial problem encountered by the expedition virtually disappear. It would also make it really easy for the SGC and Homeworld because they could outfit whatever they wanted (ships specifically) with a ZPM, making them essentially invincible.
