GermanAstra's Doctor Who figures in action

While I was in London I met this nice guy who showed me a bit of the city. He only said he was "The Doctor", but Doctor Who?!? So, I have no idea who he was, but we had much fun together!

I ran into him by accident at the London eye - he was just standing there:



Immediately he agreed to sit with me at this bench for a picture. Really a nice guy!



Then he showed me the Big Ben:





He didn't know where to spend the night, so I took him with me:



He was a bit shy and did not undress for bed, but at the next morning he was eager to explore more of London:



He looked out of the window to check the weather:





Then we went to the Tower Bridge:



We also liked the Shakespeare Globe:



At the end of the day we just were relaxing at the river Thames.







In the evening we went for a drink:





Then, at the next morning, he flew away in a funny blue box.



I have no idea who that was, but I liked him and would like to see him again! Please, if you see him anywhere, would you let me know? Thanks!

Strangely enough I was down London around many of those places last week!

I was there two weeks ago for David Tennant and Catherine Tate doing Shakespeare in theatre, and what's your excuse?

Today I bring pictures of our dream convention with the stars of both "Doctor Who" and "Torchwood"! There were panels, a costume contest, photosession, autograph session and also a dealer's room with lots of sci-fi merchandise.

The most frequented Panel was the one with David Tennant and John Barrowman. They both are very animated talkers, underlining what they say with their hands and thus needed constant reminding of holding the microphone close to their mouths (in truth the arms just don't bend that far, but I like my explanation better).



The crowd was so massive that the audience had to stand as there weren't enough chairs for everyone.



Also, security guards (have forgotten from which action figure line my friend brought those in ) were doing their hard job.



The moderator of the panel was Matt Smith, by the way. Here he got surprised by a WWII Dalek asking "Care for some tea?!?" Never had seen him speechless before.





David and John also were the jury for the costume contest. Some fans had done spectacular work, like this mom with her cute Slitheen child:



But others were also very good and the jury thought it hard to decide who should win.





There even was a special children contest:



The favourite of the audience and also the team that won first price in the end were the eleven friends who posed as the eleven Doctors. Awesome idea!



Show us your Sonic Screwdrivers, guys!



But wait, who has smuggled themselves into the screwdriver line there, on the far left?

So, our convention also had a dealer's room with lots of great merchandise. First an overview:



They had really good stuff there, even some Star Wars things:

The seller even brought some masks for Halloween:



This guy also had some cool stuff - even though I don't recognize some things



(Guess I also should have dusted the table)



I really liked the guy with the cute Adipose. What do you think of the mugs with the pictures of River Song and Amy? He also brought some poster rolls in a bucket and autograph cards.



The last table had the coolest stuff ever. A TARIDS! A Dalek! And the hand of the Doctor!



After everyone had set up his stuff, we let the fans in. The tables were crowded really soon.



These guys apparently were interested in the Sonic Screwdrivers.





And then somebody bought the last journal. Damn, I would have liked to have one myself!



The long scarf found a new owner as well:



And even old umbrellas got sold



As you can see, the dealer's room was a huge sucess and I guess a lot of money was being made as well.

This is part 1/2

A few weeks ago the Doctor visited me in my homecity Dresden. After he had showed me around London so nicely, I wanted to reciprocate. Sorry, it became quite a few pictures. So here is our sightseeing:

We started at the River Elbe - Dresden has the oldest and biggest fleet of steamboats in the whole world.



Not of much use for us because of the ice floes, though. He must come back in Sommer for a ride with these.



This is the Ministry of Finance. In Summer people sit at the stairs, because down at the ground is a stage and a screen and there are concerts and movies with the historical city silhouette as a background. Very nice!



Alongside the River Elbe is the Elbe bikeway, where not only bicycles can be seen but also people with inline skates, dogs or children buggies.



There even was a bit of snow left so the Doctor could try out his new sledge.



Sorry Doctor, you'll have to come back in Summer for the beer garden!



This is the so called "Golden Rider", it is Saxonian King August the Strong. It was him who collected all the jewelry and paintings which now can be seen in museums, and let erect the baroque buildings. Without him Dresden would not be what it is today.



Another famous man was Bernardo Bellotto, called Canaletto. He was a painter who made lots of paintings about the city. The most famous one shows the complete silhouette and at the place where he must have been standing they put a picture frame so you have the same view.



(There also were a man and a woman at the time I was making those pictures, and I showed mine to the man, and he called over his wife and said: "Have you seen, it looks as if he is really standing there!" and she asked: "What, the Ken?")



This is the Doctor sitting on the Augustus Bridge, one of many bridges over the River Elbe. It is the oldest and made from sandstone (as most buildings in Dresden are).



Now we're at the other side of the river and are standing in front of the opera house, built by Gottfried Semper. That's why it's also simply called "Semper-Oper".
The memorial in front of the opera shows King Johann. Yes, we had many of them.



At the left is the Catholic chapel royal (King August converted from Evangelic to Catholic just to become King in Poland) and at the right the Dresden Castle.
For this picture I had to lay down on my belly and surely amused a lot of people.



And now we're at the "Zwinger", it was built as a place to have celebrations like weddings, with many people. It also has many museums, a porcelain collection, a collection of historical scientic instruments, weapons and the art gallery, of which the most famous picture is Raphael's "Sistine Madonna".



This is the "Kronentor" (Crown Gate), the main entrance.
When I made this picture a tourist woman asked: "Excuse me, is this little man standing there all the time?"

During Summer time of course there are fountains and flowerbeds.



The entry in the background has a glockenspiel made from Meissen porcelain. Each day at 3 PM it plays a nice melody.



Well, at this time I started to worry about the Doctor. I know, Timeloards do have a slightly lower body temperature than humans, but in this snow, only with Converse and a thin suit, that can't be healthy. I wouldn't want to be responsible if he had to regenerate because of a cold, as he looked a bit frozen. So we decided to leave the rest of the sightseeing for another day and went home by Tram.

Here I became the amusement of some children when their mum called: "Look, a little uncle!"





In my flat I tried to make the Doctor comfortable and warm, but I'll leave those pictures for the second part. Here is a little teaser though:

This is part 2/2

So, here comes the second part of my little Doctor-visit. After all the sightseeing we did in part 1, we are back home now.

I was afraid the Doctor would get a serious cold, so I treated him to a hot tea and warm water for the feet:





The picture you see hanging at the wall is the one I was talking about in the first part - the famous Dresden silhouette by Canaletto. Here is it in bigger:

I also had to add the picture to his cup. It says "I ? Dresden" on the other side, but the Doctor was only able to hold the cup with his right hand. So instead of showing you the magnet that was put there, I removed it and fixed the hole with this picture. Don't tell anybody!



The next day the Doctor was on his way and I can just hope that he will visit me again. Preferably during Summer time. When he comes back, I'll let you know about it!

Thank you all for the kind feedback! I just realized I never posted the last two parts of my miniature convention, so there will be more pictures soon.

Haha, this is awesome! That 10th Doctor figure is really cool! I'm not sure I've seen that one before (I am in the US so of course not I guess!).

Have a look at ebay.co.uk from time to time. That's where they are sold, mostly used so they are not too expensive. Of course shipping to America is another matter. Anyway, these should be around 25 pounds. They come in both brown and blue suit, one with whit shoes, the other with red shoes, and also with the Sonic Screwdriver of course.

But if you want to have a real collectors item, there soon will also be a Tenth Doctor by Big Chief. We have not seen pictures so far but if I go with what they did for the Eleventh Doctor, this one looks awesome. Well detailed and very worth his 150 pounds!

Just make sure to not spend your money on the 18" Tonner Dolls, they look nothing like David Tennant. Nothing at all.
