Season 1-32 or Season 1-6 ? Which numerical structure do you prefer ?

If we're going to call them 1-6, I think I'll start calling season 6 of SG-1, season 1. Sure it's the same characters, same premise, and same series name--but clearly the minor changes add up to a new show so it should've been re-numbered to season 1

I think a better analogy would be to call Stargate SG-1 Seasons 9&10 Seasons 1&2. The show's radical change at the start of Season 9 would compare more to the 2005 Doctor Who revival, no?

Considering it's the same show, I agree with DigiFluid here. That said, I think the whole Season # reset is aimed at the new, younger audience who didn't watch the 1963-89 run. I would imagine it is more about drawing in new viewers than anything else.

Seasons 1 - 6 refers to the number of seasons produced by BBC Wales since 2005. Seasons 1 - 32 refers to TOTAL number of seasons of Doctor Who produced since 1963.

What happens if someone mentions the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, or sixth season? Shall we have Season 1A and Season 1B?

Does anyone actually refer to the first six series frequently enough for this to become an issue? Most people I've seen just talk about specific serials, when talking about classic Who.

The argument that its just the same as calling SG-1 Season 9&10, 1&2 would hold more weight if the producers had referred to it that way.

Answer is simple, call the original: seasons 1-6 and the new: series 1-6.

For me both are difficult. I always say a doctor's number, rather than season

When I refer to classic series stories, I refer to them by their serial name (e.g. Ark in Space) not the season (12... is that right?). I generally know which ones are in which seasons but I generally can't quote it off hand.

They didn't want to call it Season 9. They wanted the show to be re-branded as Stargate Command, but they were overruled by the network. The creative minds had no choice in calling them 9 & 10.

Because the BBC thought that "Season 27" would alienate potential new viewers, and insisted on it being called #1.



In both cases, the creative forces have been railroaded into calling them something that they weren't. Calling seasons 27-32, 1-6, is just flat-out incorrect and a consequence of bean-counter meddling.

It seems to me it should be called:

Dr Who I: seasons 1-32 (not sure how many)

Dr Who II: Seasons 1-6
