Food?
With everyone in stasis, there's all this talk about Eli keeping life support running if he can't fix his stasis pod. How's he going to do that when he's a college drop out who stayed at home, playing video games? I can buy him being brilliant with math, but that doesn't make him an expert with alien mechanics and computers. If he's to be alone for three years... uh... what is he going to eat and drink, eh?

It was only going to be 3 weeks then Eli would have been running thier FTL 3 year jump.

It's a lot easier to repair something if you have the instruction manual. All Eli has to do is figure out what's wrong and use the manual.

Most people can't fix their own car even if they have all of the tools and parts. However, Eli is suppose to be able to fix alien technology?

Most people don't have to fix their car or die. That's a good motivator. Eli's been working on an alien ship for a year. He has to have learned something. So long as it's not a severe mechanical fault, he's got a chance.

He has been learning at the hands of Doctor Nicholas Rush, one of the most respected experts in Ancient technology, for over a year now. Plus his natural intellect would allow him to pick stuff up easier than most.
On the topic of food, they had rather a lot of food when they all went into stasis; enough to feed ninety-plus people for a little while at least. Condense that number down to just one, and I'm sure he could last for rather a long time.

I'd say he'd run out of time before having to off himself (only has 3 weeks before him using the life support would mean Destiny would fall short of the next galaxy) before he has to worry about food.

True. BUT what i would be wondering.. We have seen brody, rush and volkar ALL do a lot of fixing things.. not much so Eli. YES his math seems to be the best. BUT wouldn't it have made more sense on a "repair" side of hose to have one of the better fixers stay out?

They were already in the pods when the problem arose. To pull someone out and then put them back would likely use a more power.

The choice was Rush, Eli, or Young.
Young = dead 100%
Rush = 50% he will live or screw everyone else
Eli - 25% chacne he will fix it, he will not frak the crew.
I made up the stats, however from the context of the episode, I can accept them happily.
As we have seen with many other things on the ship, the ship is math based. As the pod had malfuntioned after getting it 'repaired' during its test, it should not be a stretch to think the malfuntion is with the programing, which we can assume is math based.
In some regards, Eli may be the right person for the job.

I think when Eli running out of food, destiny will automatically drop from FTL to the nearest planet that has food resources. Either Eli has to dial the gate or using the shuttle to get the supply. So, he had to learn to fly the shuttle before then.
I guess, they forgot to turn off the emergency protocol before they set the 3 years FTL journey.

Well i doubt they would forget something like that.
The drain on power would screw up Eli's calculations.
Best chance he has, is to unlock Ginn and Perry's consciousness from quarantine and figure the pod out.

i figure thatd work, but to do so from a console would use how much power? and the things they do to fix the pod, would use how much power? [hehe rush 'there IS no more power!!]. maybe not a lot but could cut his life support by a few days or more. most likely way is via ginn/dr perry coming out of quarantine i agree. if infact shuttle has its own life support [does it??] he could conceivably stretch out his food/water ration maybe a week or so more. depends. how much food/water does he have, i forget? since the shuttles docked im betting destiny life support is in charge of it. and i guess he could wear the suit and conserve life support but to turn it off then back on, might waste power [like, turning it off while he has the suit on, etc]. or, after the 2 weeks hed wear the suit but that mean if he did get the pod to work, hed go into stasis, in a suit.
another thing that could work well, im thinking teneran archive. the novus evacuation vessels are long range sublight craft, they may infact have stasis technology aboard that made it into eli's transfer during epilogue. and brody, the engineer survivalist extraordinaire [it was YOUR calculations!! lol] figured out how to mine from scratch. ... morrison mightve been right they didnt get enough palladium hydride [ bit . ly / iqfrrI ] so that archive might describe ways to substitute material, or presuming the mined stuff they used in gauntlet for the pods is in a "main vat" like the co2 scrubbers, to power the pods - eli'd have to finnagle a way to either 'trick' or 'boost' the pods, w/o turning them off or interfering with pods that are already on... most likely using the bots. But, where are they now on the ship, and how long would it take to get a hold of them.

He could extend the power he has by staying in the shuttle and with the plants (that are left) oxygen could last enough for 3 years. Eli is just one person so he could eat plants and grow more before they run out. With Eli's 'output' he could provide nutrition for the plants, the only big problem is water for himself and plants. However last time they resupplied they had enough for 80+ plus people for some amount of time, plus what you can get from eating plants and whatever you can reclaim from 'output'.

i wonder how many plants are left, obviously the omega garden is portable and you can move it, maybe power it from those charger mats. how much power would hydroponic devices use? Im guessing life support having to be minimal, would make other use of power past a certain threshold of voltage or whatever, can affect that. maybe not. soooo many unknowns....: (
