Well I've only read the first two but I did like the first book because it was a whole new world that just made you dive into it, the second one was more in depth, but was fun too.

The author was one of Time's 100 most influential persons, only reason I came across the books, wanted to see what the hype was about.

I was thinking of reading the book. I take it it's not just a kid's sci-fi book (as in the writing, plot developement, etc. aren't dumbed down at all)?

Watching the movie running man and has very much similarities to hunger games , you should check it out of course running was written by Stephen king a, whereas hunger games from Suzanne Collins is based off a greek tragedy , but there are sone similarities

I read the books when they first came out. Good writing with lovable characters, though I was sort of put off on how the trilogy ended. I mean, really...that guy? Her sister? WHAAAAA

EDIT: Oh yes, I forgot. The upcoming movie has a strange cast.

So I finally read the first book (picked it up for five dollars at a going-out-of-business sale). Aaand then I stayed up until 4 am just to finish it, so I guess it must have been interesting. Sort of reminded me of dystopian, gladiatorial Lord of the Flies....

Then I found out it was based off the story of Theseus, which made perfect sense--as did "Lord of the Flies" being one of the author's favorite books. =P I'm definitely thinking of picking up the sequels now.

Okay, I finished the whole series now (after a couple days' mandatory break while the books were shipped ). It was a good read, if not particularly uplifting. The last two books seemed filled with desperation, starting with the news of the Third Quarter Quell onward.

    --SPOILERS AHEAD--
(I'm guessing tags aren't necessary since this is a discussion thread, after all. =P )

Honestly, I wasn't too happy about the second half of Catching Fire being about another Hunger Games--felt a bit been there, done that, despite the radical differences between the games in the first and second books. Maybe I was just hoping the rebellion would start sooner, or maybe it was just the utter hopelessness of their situation weighing me down. The odds certainly were not in their favor.

I did like Mockingjay a bit better than Catching Fire, though. I like a good uprising. The apparent systematic destruction of Katniss, however, was a bit...shall we say disheartening. It painted a good picture of the losses of war, thrown in sharper relief by the Capitol's previous decades of cruelty. I suppose it was a study in how much must and should be sacrificed for victory before victory becomes hollow.

As a random observation, I really, really was not expecting Finnick to bite it. I'd been spoiled about Prim (dang it), but his death was quite a surprise.

Interestingly, The Hunger Games got some smiles and even a laugh or two while I was reading it ("For all I know, I could be killing you." "Could you do it a little faster?" "No. Shut up and eat your pear." <--that one got me, for some reason =P), but neither of the sequels had quite the same effect. Probably the most emotion came from when Finnick died in the third book, but The Hunger Games seemed to elicit more and varied emotions.

Anyway, these were pretty fun to read. Not sure they qualify as young adult on the grounds of violence alone, but still, very thematically interesting.

Oh, I forgot. There were a couple places where Mockingjay made me smile--specifically, Johanna's snarkiness.

That was way longer than I'd intended. O.o Oh well, I guess no one will probably read it.

I still have to read the third one but from my brief glance at your post because I didn't want to be exposed to spoilers, you said it was better than the second one so I'll try it. I didn't really want to read it after the second one because it got too...unbelievable and other stuff.
